Today I mourn the passing of a few close friends. For years they have been with me, through good times and bad, and though at least one of them was responsible for more than one bad time, there were more good than bad, I think. That was confusing. Anyways, I know that all of them could be counted on for at least one reasonably good game.
I discovered their passing this morning as I worked on what I should have "on deck" in my revised gaming room (Room 1, v2). I had finally settled on PS2, NES, SNES, Genesis, T-16, and N64 (Dreamcast and Xbox are stationed in Room 2, v2). After fixing the mass of wire-spaghetti making sure the proper hook-ups were hooked up I discovered the tragedy. My Sega CD, Genesis model 1, and Turbografx CD had passed onto a better place. I did what I could, but in the end there was no saving them. They have gone Home, and I will have to come to terms with this on my own.
The viewing will be scheduled Sunday, September 15th at approximately 11 am EST. As per their last requests, games will be placed in their trays/slot. They will be Sonic CD, Final Zone II, and StarFlight (for the Sega CD, Turbo CD, and Genesis, respectively). The funeral has been scheduled to take place in my basement, where they will be entombed in my console display shelf (since they are inanimate objects) and dusted not less than once a month.
Goodbye, my friends.
[UPDATE] - It seems the Turbo CD isn't totally dead, but is unable to play CD games. It look like the CD drive gear has stripped out, which is the death knell for this particular system. Fortunately I can still play regular Turbo games on it (and through composite), so for now it will stay next to my SNES.

Oh why, God why?!
Why did You take them away?!
And they were so young, too...

Hey, man, if you need someone to talk to-- a shoulder to cry on and all that-- I'm here for ya.

It is a sad day indeed. I'm gonna have to head over to your place and pay my respects.
Drop by my work and I'll give you a model 1 Genesis for FREE. I've got a ton of those laying around that I'm not using. Their like a dime a dozen at the thrift shops and being the sucker I am I horde them.

Don't think of them as gone; think of all the great times you shared, allowing them to leave you with a collection of great memories. This too shall pass... especially once they're replaced.
I feel your pain, my friend. Just within a year I had to say goodbye to a Genesis Model 1, an old toaster NES, at least one 360, an old Commodore monitor, a 1st party large format Game Cube memory card full of saves, a model 1 Sega CD, my Radiant Silvergun full of data rot (and now locking up,) and my Turbo Duo and Duo RX are in ApolloBoy's hospital, with the Duo I've had since my youth now on life support with an unknown ailment.
Oh well, I knew once I bought a house and got around to unpacking all this stuff and testing it again, I'd find some casualties.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your words. I may take you up on your offer, Raz, but I have to wait for the pain to cease. The Genesis is sitting on my shelf attached to the failed Model 1 Sega CD. Every now and then I take the duo down and try to power them on. I still can't let go yet. At least not until I eventually disassemble the Sega CD...
Wow, slackur. After reading your response this really puts my problems into perspective. Not only Radiant Silvergun (OUCH!) but a Turbo Duo AND a Duo RX? Man, that is painful. Your statement (as well as my research) have pushed me into the arms of emulation for my T16 CD needs (when I get the dough to register Magic Engine, that is). Man, a Duo AND a Duo RX...

I understand bombatomba.
Its kinda like when a pet dies. You can always get another one but its never the same. You have to let some time pass. But do let me know if you want a free Genesis. I have several extras of the system being held orphan in my house waiting for a gamer to love them.

@bombatomba: The loss of Radiant Silvergun was very disappointing, softened slightly by the XBLA release. It will be difficult to justify a replacement. Perhaps the worst part is the fact that there are many collectors and sellers that STILL do not believe pinholes effect the data. My scratchless but now pinholed RS that randomly locks up says otherwise...

As for the Duo and RX, thanks to Apolloboy, the RX is now up and running with a new laser assembly, (YAY!) though he is now likely to use parts from it to test the Duo that is resisting a successful repair. It's not a total loss of time and expense, either; I'm paying for a region mod on both (if the Duo can be repaired) and maybe even S-Video on the RX.
So all in all, despite time and money spent, it may turn around for the best, especially since new lasers should theoretically keep my Duos playing further into the future
