Wow.  September started off strong.  I picked up a second batch of games from the same Japanese seller I was buying in August.  Sorted not in alpha or kana order, but by manliness.  Games with IMPACT are on the left, and the ones with hurt feelings to the right.

Question:

What's better than having a Dreamcast hooked up to your TV?

Answer: It's better to have TWO Dreamcasts hooked up!

Now I've got a Japanese DC so I don't have to use swapdiscs any more.  It's a bit "suntanned" but it runs like a dream.

Moving on...  Does anyone collect strategy guides?  Some sellers have a difficult time getting rid of them.

I like strategy guides because they give me a chance to pad my collection without actually picking up unique titles.  Guess what?  There's variants on these too.  Look at the top row.  FIVE versions of The Ultimate Code Book were released in only two years.

Last month I picked up a nearly complete run of Gamers' Republic magazine.  Here's two more issues to fill in the holes, only three left and a buyer's guide to complete the set.  I also picked up a very special issue of an unreleased magazine, Anime Republic.  This was also going to be a Dave Halverson production, and if you've read anything of his you'll immediately recognize his personal fingerprints.  Games, anime, and other multi-medias are connected and it's important to pay attention to the industry globally, not just domestically if you want to anticipate trends... and Dave always drew a lot of material for articles from Japanese trade shows with a strong sense of what would and would not be released stateside.  Finally, what's that to the left?  I may have to do a sixth-grade style book report for you guys.

The next item is similar to one I picked up last month.  It's a lanyard for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle as handed out at Pax Prime in Seattle, WA earlier this month.  Like the JSR lanyard, it is colorful and well presented.  I think Sega is really onto something.

Last pic, last item.  This one's been stirring on the ASSEMbler games forum for over 20 months.  I can't give it a proper introduction, so here it is... Geist Force.

geistforce-recieved

Geist Force is the first game to begin development for the console, and is considered to be a holy grail by some.  That being said, don't get your hopes up.  The game was cancelled so what was leaked to the community is broken and incomplete.  It crashes frequently, frequent disc loads, slodown and entire levels are missing.  "Playing" becomes "debugging" and it's a real chore to attempt to make progress.  A super limited batch of discs were pressed to people who donated at a critical time to acquire the game data disc from a former developer.  They weren't for sale, but a torrent might be up this coming month.  This might technically be considered a reproduction, so Geist Force will not be listed here at RFG.

Geist Force was being developed by Team Andromeda, makers of Panzer Dragoon, and generally resembles Star Fox 64.  It is beautiful, and is certainly the type of game I would like to purchase, even today, if it were completed.  Search for Geist Force on youtube for the many videos the community has made over the past few weeks.  The disc and cover art are colorful, highly professional, and were produced by the game's biggest fans.

dammit Oatbob, blew me out of the water again!

First off, nice haul on the JPN games. I only grab ones not released in US, but you got some good stuff there like Air and some of the Elderado Gates. Damn.

Second, great haul on guides! Ugh. I only managed to snatch one this month.

Third, was planning to pick up that Rise & Fall Of Sega book as well. Looks awesome.

Fourth... you got Geist Force??? Well fudge. I'm glad this isn't a contest. Haha.

Geist Force is a big piece of history, but it's also got Duke Nukem Forever syndrome.  14 years and people have inflated expectations.  I think Terry snagged a copy too.

Those Japanese DC games look cool. Nice pictures, too.
