So, when I first got hit with my nostalgia, eBay is where I looked. It was easy, convenient, and with a lot of reasonable buy it now prices, I was able to acquire the titles I wanted pretty quickly, and at reasonable prices.
I assumed that eveyrone that was collecting retro video games did this, but as I started to read more about the culture I found that eBay is sort of frowned upon by the "true collector".
I don't consider myself anything, except someone who loves video games old and new, and I get them any way I can. I'm not going to stop going to eBay for some games, but I am going to try to get them from flea markets and yard sales first.
Now that I've had a taste of a large flea market, I am definitely much happier with what I got for the money I spent.
At any rate, if you are eBaying exclusively to get your games, I definitely suggest finding a large flea market and keeping your eyes peeled for yard sales that may have video games the prices are MUCH better.
So, I have submitted several games into the wonderful database here, and I have found that it works perfectly, up until now.
I have attempted to submit Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood PC Version to be added to the database, but it won't take it, I tried submitting it without the colon in the title, which it took, but I don't see it in the database.
Anyway, love the site, just a little annoyed at this little issue, I'll be notifying whoever would handle that whenever I get a moment, lol.
Hey blog readers! So I checked out the Bulletstorm demo the other day. After completing the demo and watching the video at the end, I immediately logged onto Gamestop.com and pre-ordered my copy for PS3 (I would have done PC, but I don't have really any friends that play PC games online).
At any rate this game is a whole lotta fun before you even get into the really fun stuff. I don't know about you all, but I am very excited about this game, and can't wait for it to arrive at my front door.
Hey everyone, So I have not done crap on this site for a few months, and with good reason. I took a job a few months back that was going to have me travelling all through the country as an exchange consultant. That was not my cup of tea which I found out after two short weeks of doing this job, so I quit.
I went back home and went to the interviews I had lined up before I even left Atlanta. None of these interviews panned out, and this made me nervous naturally. Finally I went on an interview with a company that I am currently working with as an IT consultant at their firm. This leaves me with lots of hours since I have over an hour commute each way, and work 8a-5p normally (sometimes longer as needed).
With all that I have learned something about myself that I didn't know before. I cannot live without my toys, living out of a suitcase is not possible with me lol.
Anyway, the jist of this is that my life has done a 180 from a couple months ago, and now I am moving into my new penthouse apt this Saturday, so I'm psyched!
So before I was hit with nostalgia and began collecting a few short months ago, I was the opposite of a collector, which explains why I gave away all my old stuff. Now that I have started collecting and have a "not too shabby" collection so far I find myself playing on these older systems more and more.
Before all this collecting it was simple, load up the PS3 and play Call of Duty, or load up the Wii and play Wii Sports, or hop on the PC for some beautiful visuals. During that time the PS3 dominated my gaming habit, and I was playing online constantly. Once I became aware of all the cheating going on, that's when things changed for me.
My first way of dealing with the Call of Duty cheating was to get Battlefield Bad Company 2 the day of it's release, and surely all the cheaters will stay playing Call of Duty, yeah right. It did not take too long before I was overwhelmed with blatant cheaters on Battlefield (my absolute favorite fps series by far).
Well Red Dead Redemption came out and that worked out well for awhile until I started to notice people cheating on this game as well. WTF! That was about how I was feeling at this point.
I had a great idea at this point, what if I play an older online game, surely the cheaters have moved on from Call of Duty World at War. It turns out I was dead wrong, there is still tons of cheating on that dinosaur albeit awesome game.
With all of these attempts to dodge the online cheating it has just made it overwhelmingly obvious that it is unavoidable, and so if I want to avoid cheating online I have to stay offline. This is where it has become appealing to just stay offline, game offline. If I want to have fun playing multiplayer, it'll have to be split screen I guess.
I did make some attempts to try to get punkbuster on the consoles, but that most likely will fail, whatever I give up. All this means is that multiplayer stats are meaningless...which is sad because the whole point of keeping stats was to keep track of how well you are doing, but with all the cheating that is right out the window, so why bother at all?
So I have had this PS3 sitting around collecting dust, and I am finally fed up with it. I ordered a new blu ray drive on ebay, and as soon as it comes I'll be posting future blog posts as to my progress. I know I am not the first or the last kid on the block to do this, but I think it will be fun.
The PS3 is in good working order minus the fact that the drive won't read any disks whatsoever, stay tuned for future posts related to this PS3 (if you care to, lol)
So I was online playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 which is definitely my favorite shooter on the ps3 with my buddy. We are both quite good at this game, and we noticed a couple of guys that were blatantly cheating. So I reported them both...even though it probably won't do anything to stop it I felt good to at least try to make a difference.
For the heck of it the other day I loaded up Final Fantasy VII on my PC because I felt like playing it. I remember when it first came out my friend was an avid Final Fantasy player and I pretty much didn't even play RPG games at the time with one exception, Fallout. Anyway I remember being blown away by the awesome graphics at the time, and also have since played many RPG games, and many more games with RPG elements. At any rate I was feeling some nostalgia and wanted to remember what these amazing graphics looked like. Everything installed just fine, but then the issue came up. I was trying to configure the game to use 3D graphics as opposed to software and for some reason at the bottom of the config for 3D it calls for 8 bit textures or something like that (don't have it in front of me for reference). So then I thought, well my laptop is pretty old and has a Radeon 9700 in it, perhaps that supports it, NOPE. So then I tried to find the solution to this issue, perhaps there is an update or something to the software that fixes it. Well there are patches for the software, but they only deal with sound. I mean, yeah I could play the game in software mode, but that wasn't the point to me even loading it up. This is rather disappointing and strange, I have never heard of an old game that won't play on a new system because of the hardware, and I am certainly not going to run a virtual machine just for one old game, has anyone else dealt with this issue or perhaps a similar one?
I have searched online to find out where to get blank tall CD cases (Sega Saturn, Sega CD style) to no avail. The only option appears to be buying old sports games and taking those jewel cases. Well if that's the case then that would mean that they are in fact not being manufactured anywhere in the world. I find this hard to believe, I mean you can buy brand new parts for a 1950's Cadillac, but nobody is making these large jewel cases? If anyone is aware of any company doing this please message me. I just can't imagine that this market is being ignored especially since they are always broken it seems.
