So I had a long hiatus from this site and actively collecting games. Long story short, I had real life stuff that needed taking care of, and I was pretty busy for a long while. But, now things are calmer again, and I can begin to actively collect games again! I did manage to pick up a few new additions though in my hiatus. Full details in a later post.
Got two new systems and a few new games recently, so I thought I'd post my revised set up and let you guys peek inside the drawers. Take a look.
This is my updated full set up, with the drawers open so you can see. The image on the TV is actually my custom health warning screen for the Wii, my Wii is hacked to have a custom theme too, I'll post specifics on that in another post. This is a close up of my stack of most played systems. Notice the Playstation nestled between the NES and N64! That's new. That's the box my copy of Ocarina of Time came in. I thought I was getting the original case, but whatev, I got the game, that's what matters most.
This is the right side drawer, just some gamecube controllers, games, and various accessories.
This is the left side. My other new addition, a first gen Sega Genesis and Sonic 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. No hook ups or controllers yet, but I'll get those later. Some SNES games, just A Link to the Past and Sim City 1, no SNES yet, but I figured I'd snag those as I play those on emulators alot. My 64 games and NES games on the right. My mom has a labler, so I label my N64 games on the top for easier sorting. Almost forgot to mention the Gameboy Color there next to the Sega. So that's it for now, Makin' good progress or what?
About two weeks have gone by since my last post, but I finally have new systems, one of which I'm very excited for. Took a trip to a local Goodwill as many of you have suggested, and I'm glad I did. Scored two systems and 3 games. I found an original Playstation for 5 bucks, no cords, controllers or games, but I'll get those elsewhere. The next thing I'm very excited for, a first generation Sega Genisis with the power cord (no RF cord yet)! It has no controllers, but again, I'll get them eventually. A little more digging and I found Sonic The Hedghog 2 and 3 and Sonic and Knuckles, arguably the best games for the system. Even though I can't play them, I'm very satisfied with my findings, there's another Goodwill in my town, I'll check it out when I get a chance.
No new toys lately so I thought I'd just post my current gaming set up. Not very impressive, I know. It's only temporarey, I don't have any shelves yet, so everything is kinda shmushed together. I keep all the controllers and accessories in the drawers below, the only reason the 64 controllers are out is because me and my friends play ALOT of 64, so I keep it on easy access. The TV only has one HD input, and it only goes up to 480p, it's kinda old. My Wii is hacked, so I can play games off of an external harddrive. I have to use an A/V switcher just to hook up everything, I have 4 systems and a cable box, the TV only has 3 total inputs, one being HD. I'll update when i get to work on my real gaming room.
I'm a little late on this post. Not much new to post anyway, only new game I have is Zelda: Ocarina of time. I've been spending more time playing my games right now rather than collecting them right now, mostly because I have no money for new ones at the moment. The next system I'll go for though is the Super Nintendo, then the Dreamcast, my friend says he has one, I doubt it.
First week in this newbies collection, and I'd say it was a pretty good one. Actually sold some of my other non-video gaming related collectibles (my awesome guitar), but I think it was well worth it. First, a brief background on me and why I wanted to start collecting video gaming memorabilia. I was brought up on gaming. I've had just about every Nintendo system there was since the NES except a Virtual Boy (though I might get one from a friend). I was practically born with a controller in my hands. I had a dream about a week ago. What was it about? You guessed it, I was a video game collector. I don't know why I had it, most likely the fact that I went on a retro gaming spree playing some games on my PC with emulators, but that's besides the point. All the sudden, an emulator wasn't enough, I wanted the real thing, I wanted an original square shaped NES controller in my hands as I played Super Mario Bros. I wanted to own the physical essence of the game, not just the digital form. I started collecting. My goals are simple, nab any thing game related I possibly can, and try to complete as many game catalogs as possible, with priority on the Nintendo 64, then other Nintendo consoles, then all else. Now a week later, let's look at how far I've come.
New Additions -
Bought an NES bundle that came with 3 games: Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, The Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll, and 10 Yard Fight. Soon after, I came across the gold cartridge versions of Zelda 1 and 2, sweet. I also obtained A link to the Past in that deal, though I don't have an SNES, yet. The very next day (or it could have been the same, either way) I obtained a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Party 1. I later scoured eBay and came across Zelda: Ocarina of Time limited edition gold cartridge. I bought it. That should be arriving sometime in this next week, needless to say, I can't wait!
So that was my week one, not bad for a newbie, right? I'll try to keep this blog semi-weekly, depends on when I get new stuff. If I don't post anything, I didn't get anything new. Until next time, bye.
