Parasite Eve has been a favorite of mine since I first got it for Christmas in 1998. Here's a look at how it holds up now... and how much it could use a remaster.

I'm always interested in the later release NES games. Wacky Races came out in 1991 and was based on the Hanna Barbera cartoon of the same name. It's interesting in that it includes no actual races. It's a solid enough, but rather mediocre platformer.

Occasionally, we get a game that combines the mechanics of pinball with other genres. Recent ones include: Yoku's Island Express, a pinball metroidvania, or Creature in the Well, which is a pinball hack-and-slash dungeon crawler. Pinball Quest is an NES game that included a pinball RPG, in addition to 3 regular tables. While it does have some issues, it was quite a novel idea for the time.

The Metroidvania has recently become one of my favorite genres, and I'm always on the lookout for more. I figure some others might be in the same boat, so here are 10 games I recommend.

Today I'm reviewing a game that has been a little overlooked due to it being a late release on the NES and being preceded by a much less memorable game. Have you played this one? It's Super Spy Hunter.

Today I'm reviewing a game that plays a lot like Pac-man, but puts a prehistoric spin on things. Trog!

Rayman is an amazingly bright and beautiful platformer than I remember loving as a kid. Re-playing it now, I'm unsure I ever got very far into the game because once you get past the first world, it is incredibly difficult! In this video I take a look at the best and worst parts of the game.

The social isolation of the recent month has made me want to partake in some gaming comfort food -- old favorites from my childhood and teenage years. I decided to play one of the most memorable adventure games, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. It's a slightly more mature take on the adventure genre that looks at a series of voodoo murders. It has a fantastic setting and voice cast, but also some aspects that I needed to take a more critical look at. Enjoy!

Today I'm talking about my first experience with the Suikoden series, a JRPG by Konami that features over 100 playable characters. This is a PS1 JRPG that was never on my radar growing up with the system. I'm glad I gave it a shot and am looking forward to playing the sequel in the near future.

I somehow managed to go through my whole life never playing a Metroid game... until now. Today I'm talking about Super Metroid. It does some things really well, but there are some things I think could be better, or are unfriendly to new players.

2019 has been a great year for games, it was a struggle to narrow this list down to just 10 of the 31 releases I played this year. But I did it. Here are my top 10 games of 2019.

If anyone's interested, here are all the 2019 releases I played (didn't necessarily finish them all though):

The 7th Guest was developed by Trilobyte and released for PC on April 1st 1993. It's an adventure game that focuses almost entirely on puzzles and uses live action video clips to tell the story as you progress. The game has an interesting development history and is notable for its place in pushing PC video game technology forward. This video takes a look at that history, the legacy of the game and how it holds up today.

Today I'm looking at DuckTales! It's got an interesting history, from the creation of the Scrooge McDuck character, to a partnership between Disney and Capcom, similarities to Mega Man and changes made by Disney producers. Here's some history of the game along with my thoughts on how it plays.

The Three Stooges is a show I used to watch with my Dad when I was a kid. I remember it ran on Sunday mornings on a local channel called The New VR. I always got a chuckle out of the pratfalls and low-brow comedy. What happens when you try to bring a comedy show to the NES? Is it still funny? Can a proper game be made out of it? Watch to find out.

Today I'm reviewing an NES game that was originally supposed to be an adaptation of The Terminator. The gameplay is reminiscent of Mega Man (though many feel Contra is a better comparison - I disagree) and uses many designs that seem to borrow from popular sci-fi properties.
