As many of you already know, we recently passed a milestone here at RFGeneration, 45000 screenshots. We also have almost 90,000 scans of games and hardware. That's more than 130,000 images in our database, something we all should be proud of. Not only because its just a ton of images, but because every single one was taken by one our members. We're not like so many of the other sites out there that steal images from one another and use stock images.
Despite our high standards and those of most our submitters, some people don't quite understand the importance of only submitting original images. It may seem harmless to fill in an empty game page with images from another source, especially from somewhere like Wikipedia that generally doesn't mind others using its images. But stealing or "borrowing" images from other sites isn't just morally wrong, it can put the whole site in jeopardy. If the owner of a stolen image were to feel inclined to do so, they could easily sue us, and since we're only funded by donations, even a small lawsuit could easily wipe us out.
Now, to prevent something like this, our staff members are trained to spot stolen images and keep them from ever getting into the database, but every once in a while, a few do slip through the cracks. So, I'd like to take this time to ask all of our members that if they have ever submitted an image that was not their own, to please come forward. We will remove the images and you will not be punished whatsoever. We will, however, not be so friendly in the future if you're found to have submitted stolen images. As was the case recently with a fairly well known and active member, after repeatedly finding them to be submitting stolen images, they were banned. So if you have submitted images that weren't your own, whether by accident or on purpose, just let us know and there will be no consequences. And if you haven't submitted stolen images, keep up the good work!
Quick! Look over on the right side of your screen, we have exactly 45,000 screenshots in the Database! For those of you reading this in the future when we have more than 45000 screenshots, sorry, but you missed one of the great milestones of your life, better luck next time. Seriously though, 45,000 screenshots is a lot of screenshots, and they were all submitted by members just like you. So thanks to all of you who have submitted one or more of those 45000 screenshots, without you, we wouldn't be here. And a special thanks to member Aeroc, for not only submitting lucky number 45,000 but for also submitting what seems like another 20,000 or so screenshots over the years. Really though, this guy has over 11,000 images credited to him in our DB.
So now that we have 45000 screenshots, its only 5000 until we get to the really incredible 50,000 mark, why not help us reach that a little sooner and start submitting some screenshots? We're not super picky, you can use an emulator (just don't ask us where to find one or the ROMs, we can't tell you that), or use a video capture device on the real hardware, you can even set up a camera and take a photo of your TV screen, as long as its a good quality, we'll be glad to add it to the DB.
I ran out of baked goods, so here's Bob Barker instead. And don't forget about the quest to finish all these milestones by the end of the year. We're half way there, and we have 11 days to finish the other three.

I told you it was coming, and yesterday at 1:42:44 PM EST, it happened. RFGeneration welcomed its 5000th member, -Goemon43-. Congrats to -Goemon43- for being lucky number 5000, and thank you to the other 4999 people who have registered here at RFGeneration and are currently using the site or have used it in the past. Now, I challenge all 5000 of you to tell just one friend about RFGeneration. If each of you got just one friend to start using the site, we would be at 10,000 members in no time! Just think of all the new information we could harvest collect from that many more people, not to mention all the new trading opportunities we'd all have.
And don't forget, we've got some other milestones coming up, lets see how many we can cross off before the end of the year!

For those of you who don't keep a constant eye on our DB's statistics, we now have over 70,000 games in our little database. I guess it ain't so little any more. Now, if you're like me, you probably want to know what the 70,000th game added to the DB was. Well, I can't tell you. Not because I don't want you to know, but because I wasn't paying close enough attention to the DB stats and let us go 150 games passed 70,000. I'll blame it on you guys though, you're the ones who added 150+ games in the last day, before the stats on the front page could update. So you all better know that I've got my eye on you and your sneaky submitting ways, we're only 78 hardware items away from 5,000 and I'm going to watch it like a hawk, so don't even try and sneak 79 passed me.
Anywho, congratulations to RFGeneration on having 70,000 games. And thank you to every one who has helped to add those 70,000 games.
We're also really close on a few other milestones, let's see how many we can reach by the end of the year!
- 45,000 screenshots - 151 to go
- 90,000 scans - 2308 to go
- 3000 Collectors on our site (the number of people who have something listed in their collection) - 146 to go
- 5000 members (number of people actively registered on the site/forum) - 49 to go
Well, this is a bit late, but better late than never right? August was another solid month for submissions here at RFGeneration. Our wonderful members made a total of 2,962 submissions in August, 866 of those were images and 500 title additions! While it wasn't our best month, its still certainly something to be proud of, there's not many sites out there that get over 800 images in a month during a good month, let alone a slow one. And its all done for you, by you guys, the community.
So who submitted the most this month? That was ApolloBoy with 1074 submissions. Shadow Kisuragi, Techie413, Sirgin, and aeroc all also had over 100 submissions during August.
And of course, we can't forget about our dedicated team of reviewers. The top reviewers in August were Shadow Kisuragi, Paully3433, and NES_Rules, each with over 100 reviews.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in August, now get to submitting even more for September. We're on track for 50,000 submissions this year, but let's see if we can get 60,000!
I hope you're all having a good Fourth of July (and for those of you that aren't American, Happy Wednesday). If you haven't noticed, we have two brand new DB Contributors, both of these gentlemen have been members here at the site for years and have made thousands of contributions between them over the years. Because of their dedication, they've been brought onto staff to make it even easier for them to contribute and thus to help flesh out the databases even more. So congratulations to Aeroc and Sirgin for making it to staff and thanks for your past (and future) contributions!
The results are in for the record setting 2012 PAIN YOURSELF WITH SUBMISSIONS contest. This year's winner really went above and beyond the call of duty, but he wasn't alone at the top. There was a close second place contestant that truly gave him a run for his money. As usual, the winner focused heavily on image submissions, something of which we always appreciate greatly. 5,575 images were submitted by this member alone through the course of the contest. Along with the other submissions this person made, they earned a staggering 55,945 points. More than 2,000 more points than last year's winner! This year's second place winner submitted a close second place point total of 39,152.
So you're probably what awesome members we have that would submit like mad men to achieve such greatness here at RFGeneration. So, without further ado, the 2012 PAIN YOURSELF WITH SUBMISSIONS Contest winner is .... Aeroc. This is Aeroc's third year in a row of winning the contest. So a big Congratulations goes out to him for this achievement. Everyone here at RFG appreciates your dedication.
So who was the valiant RFG soldier who fought so hard in his attempt to topple Aeroc this year? It was Crabmaster2000 of course. He made a solid attempt, but just came up short. I heard he's already healing his carpal tunnel scanner hand and preparing for next year's contest. Will he be able to topple the reigning three-time champion? Maybe it will be YOU who topples him, or will Aeroc continue his domination? Only time will tell.
So what does Aeroc win? Well, he wins the usual $60 of gaming swag of his choice and this sweet RFG Ringer-T:
For the rest of you that attempted this great challenge, I know some of you fought hard and some of you didn't even realize you were competing. But I thank you for your work regardless of how many points you scored, every little bit really does help make the site better.
To round out the top 10 point gainers this year we have: disloyalhead - 11,285 points nupoile - 4,367 points Tynstar - 3,980 points Duke.Togo - 2,883 points Sirgin - 2,854 points raffa1985 - 2,138 Paully3433 - 1,937 points blcklblskt - 1,874 points
Once again, I'd like to thank and congratulate everyone who participated this year. Without a solid community like you guys willing to submit like crazy we would never have been able to become THE Classic and Modern Video Games Database. But don't forget that you don't need to wait for the contest, we're happy to accept your submissions all year long! KEEP IT ON CHANNEL 3!
Wow, its been a long time. This year has been really dry for me, every time I browse the small scores thread, I get more and more jealous of the finds other people are getting while I'm stuck in a drought. But I suppose its not all that bad since I'm out of room for most of my systems anyway. I've resorted to having some SNES and some Genesis games on the floor because there's just no room left on the shelves for them. The PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and PS1 are all right behind them, with room for less than 5 games left on each of those systems. Maybe that's why I've been apathetic toward getting up early to hit up garage sales like I used to. This past weekend was the first time I actually woke up early and got out there on Friday and Saturday, but it still didn't do me any good. And don't get me started about the flea market this year, its gone to total crap. It used to be 75% people selling their personal stuff and 25% professional sellers. The last few years its been 50% and 50%, last year was closer to 25% and 75% and this year is more like 99% professional and 1% regular people. At first it seemed like the flea market quadrupling in size was a good thing, but if all they're going to sell is overpriced storage unit junk and crappy Dollar Store junk, it doesn't really matter how big it is. I guess that's just the evolution of flea markets though. They start out small with good stuff, get a bit bigger and have more good stuff, then they get too big and commercialized and the buyers that made them popular quit going and all your left with is people coming from church, retired people, and hipsters that just browse and don't actually buy anything. Before long, the whole thing collapses, and is either gone for good, or the process can start again.
Enough of my rambling, I know that's not why you read these, you want to see those deals! I hope your not too disappointed with my meager finds over the last couple months.

Today marks the 8th anniversary of when RFGeneration officially went online for the public to use. This is always a big deal here at RFGeneration, every year of existing is a true accomplishment with a site of this size that has no sponsors, ads or any kind of user fees. To make it 8 years in the tough world of online video game databases is truly a testament to our founders' visions and our members' dedication. This accomplishment couldn't have happened without the help of everyone involved with RFGen over the last 8 years. And to thank you all for helping with RFGen, we hold a contest every year where we challenge you to PAIN YOURSELF WITH SUBMISSIONS! There can only be one winner, one person who goes above and beyond everyone else and submits so much to the database that it causes them pain, whether physical pain of sore wrists or emotional pain of trying to beat everyone else competing in the contest. And this year was no different, for the past 5 weeks or so, many people have been vying for the prize, and I know it has caused actual physical pain for at least one person. But will it be enough? The competition was fierce this year, we broke submission records, and even had over 5000 more submissions in May this year than we did last year. At this point it could be anyone's game, you'll just have to wait until we can get the points tallied up. So keep it tuned to Channel 3 for the next couple days so you'll be the first to know who won this year's contest.
And Happy Birthday RFGeneration!
Holy Submissions Batman! May 2012 was a truly astonishing month for submissions, there were 15,045 total submissions in May, yes you read that right, its over FIFTEEN THOUSAND! To put that in perspective, that's about five times the average submissions each month. And with that huge number of submissions, it also means that we have set a new record for most submissions in one month. The record was last set in October 2011 when we had 12,524 submissions. Now you're probably wondering why we had such a huge number of submissions this month. Well, I'm not too sure, but I think it may have something to do with the PAIN YOURSELF WITH SUBMISSIONS CONTEST going on right now. If you don't know what that's all about, you should probably check out the front page more often, its been going on since April 28th and will end on June 8th, so there is still some time to get your submissions and potentially win the contest! And yes, it is still possible to win at this stage of the contest, everyone loves a come-from-behind win at the last moment.
So you probably want to know who has been busting their humps make those 15,000 submissions in just 31 days. I'll tell you, its certainly not a short list, almost 70 people have contributed over the month to reach this record setting month of submissions. Some people made just one submission and others like Crabmaster2000 made 6234 submissions. Crabmaster2000, of course, is the top submitter for May and rounding out the rest of the Top 10 we have Aeroc, disloyalhead, Tynstar, raffa1985, NES_Rules, nupoile, CoinCollector, blcklblskt, and Sirgin. And of course, to review those 15,000 submissions we have our dedicated staff members to approve those things, and let me tell you, it was a ton of work reviewing that many submissions. It was not uncommon for there to be 500-1000 submissions in queue at a time because they were simply coming in faster than we could look at them. Tynstar was the biggest contributor in getting those submission reviewed with 5181 approvals. Other top reviewers were NES_Rules, Paully34333, Shadow Kisuragi, ApolloBoy, and OatBob. So a great big Thanks goes out to all the submitters and reviewers this month for making May 2012 the best month ever for RF Generation in submissions.
But wait, there's more! I know what you're thinking, "OK, there were 15,000 submissions, but what were they?" well, I'll tell you what the majority of them were. And they weren't just simple page edits filling in Release Types, which while incredibly important, is not all that fascinating to look at. Instead, the vast majority of these submissions were images! In particular, screenshots. Over 10,000 screenshots and 1,000 scans were added to the DB over the course of May. These screenshots covered everything from NES to Wii, from North America to Japan and Europe, just about every section got some new images.
Thanks again to everyone who has contributed in May and in the past. If you haven't contributed, what are you waiting for? There's still time to win the contest and help out THE Classic and Modern Video Game Database! Maybe we can break the record again in June?!
RF Generation is turning 8, isn't that great?! For 8 years, we've been working to create an amazing database of games and a swell community. I think we've definitely accomplished that. Our database includes both games and hardware, something most other sites out there simply do not. We have over 80,000 scans, all unique to us and not seen anywhere else on the web. We have over 60,000 games listed and almost 5000 pieces of hardware. Our community is so close knit that it often feels more like a large family spread throughout the world than a gaming forum. So yeah, I think we've spent our 8 years on the Internet pretty well. But none of this would have been possible with you, our dedicated members who have spent countless hours scanning, editing, and researching to do your part to make our little site even better.
So thanks to each of you that have contributed over these last 8 years. And in order to show how much we appreciate all your efforts, we're giving away a fantastic prize! Now that it is officially the 8th birthday of RF Generation, the Pain Yourself With Submissions contest has officially begun! So get out there, and do whatever you can to help make our site better and you could walk away with a great prize!
Here at RF Generation, we appreciate all the work each and every one of you does, we really do. Its all that volunteer work that makes this place the treasure that it is. So, as a token of our appreciation, we like to hold a contest every year for you guys. I'm sure by now, our veterans are very familiar with it, but for those of you that have joined within the last year, let me introduce you to the PAIN YOURSELF WITH SUBMISSIONS Contest.
Essentially, the contest boils down to this: Be active on the site and you get points, the person with the most points wins! Sounds simple right? It is, but there are a few more things you need to know to fully understand how it will work.
First off, keep in mind while this contest may not be easy to win (last year's winner had well over 3000 submissions), any little bit you can do to contribute is appreciated. And we've tweaked the point system from last year, so hopefully the contest will be a bit more unpredictable to give more people a fair shot at winning.
Here's how the point breakdown will work: Title Addition: 5 Points Variation Addition: 6 Points Page Edit*: 2 Points Review*: 50 Points Overview*: 20 Points Image Upload: 10 Points Submission Review**: 1 Point Blog Post*: 30 Points Blog Comment: 1 Point Forum Post: 1 Point Forum Karma: See Explanation
*Regarding the asterisk: For page edits, if it is noticed that you are consistently only adding one field per edit multiple times for a single ID just to up your points, you will be disqualified. Any review or overview completed will count as a page edit as well the points for an overview or review. To get the points for an overview or review you MUST contact me via Personal Message so that I can keep a tally. In addition, the review or overview must be on the actual game / hardware page. A review or overview of poor quality could result in less points than stated being granted. The same statement holds true for blog posts.
Regarding Forum Karma: Because we want the forum to be a lively place of fun and interesting posts, we're enabling Karma during this contest. Karma rewards members that make good posts and smites those who do not. Your Karma will play a wildcard role in posts. Positive Karma at the end of the contest will increase your point total by a factor, while negative karma will decrease it.
As with any contest, there is fine print. Any submission that you make must adhere to the RF Generation Policies and Guidelines. We wrote these policies and guidelines for a reason, and well, we’d like everyone to adhere to them. Failure to adhere to the guidelines could result in a disqualification.
Any point reduction or disqualification can be contested. In the event that you wish to contest, you must explain why the reduction or disqualification is unfair. If you win the contest, we’ll restore your greatness, but if you lose, you shall be pelted with figurative rocks and garbage.
Everyone, except for the directors of this site, is in this contest. Because staff members get that extra point for each submission review, and those staff members will have thousands of submissions to review in addition to their own submissions, their total score will be halved to make things a bit more fair and lively.
So now that you know all the rules and have the scanner warming up, you probably want to know what you can win. Well, don't worry, its quite a substantial prize. The winner will receive their choice of gaming swag (not to exceed $60) plus an official RF Generation Ringer T-shirt!
The contest will start on April 28th, at midnight and will come to and end on June 8th. So get your stuff ready, the contest will start soon.
Good news everyone! Treasure Hunt Chronicles is back for 2012. I wish I could say it'll be better than ever, but that's really up to the stuff that falls into my lap through the year. The year so far has been off to a bit of a slow start as I usually have a couple installments in by this time of year, but at lest the stuff I have got has included no duplicates!
Got this stuff in a trade from a fellow RFGenner, douglie007. I traded a box of random duplicate games I had, so it was a win-win. Get rid of extras and get a ton of new games.
Got this awesome bundle of sports games from douglie007 once again. This time, it was as part of a three part trade with him and ReddMcknight. I sent Redd a 7800, he sent douglie a controller, and douglie sent me these beauties.
So with these trades, I've added a bunch of new games to my collection and haven't had to spend a cent on buying anything. Just a few bucks for shipping, and a few GameGavel sales I had, more than made up for that.
| This Installment | This Year | Amount Spent | $0.00 | $0.00 | Amount Spent on Shipping for Trades | $17.70 | $17.70 | Amount Received from Selling | $54.43 | $54.43 | Profit | $36.73 | $36.73 |
Yes, that's right, we now have over 80,000 game scans in our database! Just think about that for a minute, hundreds of people from all over the world have brought together 80,000 scans of thousands of different games in just under 8 years. And if you think about it, that's about 10,000 scans per year, or just under 30 new scans ever single day! And that's not even including the more than 30,000 screenshots.
So congratulation RF Generation on this milestone. And thanks to everyone has added any of those scans, whether you've added just one or a thousand, you've helped us become and continue to be THE Classic and Modern Video Games Database!
Remember to keep it on Channel 3 and those scans coming!
I can't believe you all fell for it! And don't tell me you knew it was all a ruse, I know you thought it was real. The good news is that RF Generation is not going anywhere, we'll always be here for you guys and we certainly wouldn't intentionally betray our audience like that. In fact, I don't even own an Android device or even its competitors, so its safe to say you're all safe from us becoming Android Generation for real.
However, theGrue's Android App is most definitely real, and you all should download it and give feedback on it if you do have an Android device.
Keep it on your Android device Channel 3!
