Though submission numbers were a little lower in the month of September, it was still a very productive month here at RFGeneration for some of our members. Submissions for the month totaled 2,536 items, which were comprised of 2,466 game submissions and 70 hardware submissions! Thank you to all of our submitters for the month of September, especially Flee, Shadow Kisuragi, ae.tc, ApolloBoy, CoinCollector, and Fragems who all had over 100 submissions!
I'd also like to thank our staff of loyal approvers, Shadow Kisuragi, ApolloBoy, and Tynstar for taking the time to look over all of these submissions and for making our site more informative for our members and guests.
Let's all work to make October another extraordinary month for submissions!

Dear Distinguished and Not-so Distinguished Members,
Recently, some of you (especially our older members) may have noticed a change to our home page. What once was a page filled primarily with announcements of podcasts and playthroughs, has been revamped with continually revolving feature stories of game reviews and video game related articles. Only a few days prior to the Metal Jesus video and Kotaku article releases that drove many members to our site, I spoke with Shadow Kisuragi about how I felt that the site was lacking in releasing quality gaming articles for our front page. Of course, Shadow (as he always is) was very receptive to my concern and agreed that we should do something to liven up the primary portal to our site. Little did I know, I would be asked to lead this charge....okay, so maybe I kind of knew.

As many of you might have noticed, we have had a nice influx of members on the site lately. This has mainly been a result of mentions from Metal Jesus and Kotaku (see video and links at the bottom of this page). The staff here at RFGeneration would like to welcome all of our new members to the site and encourage all of you to not only house your collection here, but to also become active members of our site. The following is an explanation of our database tool, and also a brief description of some of the features that our site has to offer. If you haven't done so already, please introduce yourself on the introduction forum. We are always happy to hear from new members and learn a little about their collections and backgrounds: http://www.rfgeneration.c...um/index.php?topic=2931.0

As a means to be better host to our playthrough participants, we are announcing our August playthrough selections a bit early. Though these titles will not break your bank, they can be a little troublesome to locate, so we are giving you a bit of additional time to track down these games.
This month on the Retro Playthrough, we head back to Sega with Beyond Oasis for the Genesis. Many have criticized Sega for not having a game or series on the Genesis similar to or rivaling Nintendo's Zelda series. Others argue that Beyond Oasis is this "missing link" and provides a somewhat similar overhead gameplay experience with an added touch of beat 'em up stylistics. In Beyond Oasis the player controls Prince Ali, a young man who discovers a sacred golden armlet with the power to summon elemental spirits. Ali must do battle across the land in an attempt to stop the person who has located the silver armlet and is using it for evil. Beyond Oasis can be played on the Sega Genesis, the Wii's Virtual Console, on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the XBox 360 and PS3, and is currently on Steam. Please join us this month on what promises to be an exciting adventure.

In the Modern Playthrough for August, an amnesic fugitive and possessed princess cross paths in the intertwining story lines of Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Power hungry leaders are after legendary swords, and it is your duty to stop them. It is the height of the shogun era of Japan and you will have to hack and slash your way to saving the country from dragons and demons. Muramasa is by the same developers as Odin Sphere and is similarly a side scrolling hack and slash RPG. Muramasa: The Demon Blade is available for play on the Nintendo Wii, PS Vita, PSN, and is a free game this month on PS Plus (be sure to download it before August).

In order to spice things up a little for summer, the playthrough teams have decided to switch hosting roles for the next two months and host games for their counterparts. This month GrayGhost81 will turn the wheel of time back a little further and host the Retro Playthrough, and I (singlebanana) will try my hand at hosting a more modern game (though of course, not TOO modern ). For June, we have picked two very exciting and revered titles on the Playstation and Playstation 2. So without further adieu, here are your playthrough titles for June:
This month, play as the son of famous general Teo McDeol, and lead a ragtag rebel army against the evil empire in the original Suikoden on the Sony Playstation. Travel across a vast land while trying to recruit the 108 Stars of Destiny to your cause. Experience one of the deepest stories and meet some of the most interesting characters in video game history. What looks like a traditional turn-based JRPG at first is sure to surprise you with its depth and sweeping scope. So please, join us in playing Suikoden for the June retro playthrough. Suikoden is available on the PSX, as well as the PSN.
Link to Suikoden discussion thread: http://www.rfgeneration.c...m/index.php?topic=14016.0
In June's modern playthrough, you (Wander) make a deal with a mysterious being, known as Dormin, to travel across vast lands to slay 16 colossal monstrosities in hopes of resurrecting a deceased lady named Mono. Armed with only a legendary sword and your trusty bow, you must scale these giants and exploit their weaknesses to bring them crashing to their knees.....or wings, as the case may be. Shadow of the Colossus is not your typical action/adventure game, but also has strong puzzle elements. Each colossi requires a different strategy and means to defeat it; often times, you have to exploit parts of the environment to earn a victory. What fate befalls our hero after slaying all 16 colossi? Join us and find out. Shadow of the Colossus is available on the PS2 and on the PS3 as a combo pack with Ico.

We are very excited about this month's choices and hope that many of you will join in!
Just in case you missed the announcement on the playthrough forums, we wanted to ensure that all of our members here at RFGeneration were aware of a new and exciting feature we have added to our monthly playthroughs.
After some discussion amongst the playthrough hosts, we decided that it would be a lot of fun to create a podcast to discuss the games that we played the previous month. Our hope is that our discussion will further facilitate discussion on the forums and increase community participation. The four playthrough hosts will discuss the games we all played together in a casual group review, discuss some of your posts on the playthrough forums, and from time-to-time, may ask some of you to come onto the show and discuss these games with us. We anticipate that each episode will be released within 3-5 weeks after the monthly playthroughs are finished, so expect every episode to lag behind the current playthroughs by about a month or so.
Again, we are really looking forward to adding something fun and interactive to this community and hope that you will listen in and provide us with some constructive feedback to make our show better. Thank you.
