If you find yourself in Paris head to the 11th District. Walk down Voltaire Blvd and you'll be surrounded by shops catering to video games, manga and electronic devices. Here in the heart of this mini Akihabra you'll find Trader Games. Established in 2002 they sell video games of all eras and specialize in retro games. I recently visited Trader and brought my camera so let's take a look.

A couple of months ago I found myself at the local Goodwill. I wanted to find a monitor or TV that I could connect the NES Classic to. I searched through piles of monitors and at the bottom found an old Samsung 19" TV. It showed signs of heavy use but as they were only asking $7 it seemed like a good buy. I paid for it and brought it home. I cleaned up the TV and started testing the inputs. It was then I started to realize all the features this little TV has.

Over the years, I've invested a lot of time and money into streamlining my game room. I strongly believe that it shouldn't take more than five minutes to have a game and system ready to play. To accomplish this, I spent hours measuring, researching and arranging all my consoles and TVs into zones. Each zone has a specific purpose such as a retro corner with a CRT for light gun games, or an RF cart for pre-NES consoles. I recently set up a combination PC Gaming/SHMUP Station and here's how I did it.

It's been a busy summer and I've been playing a lot more than shmups so I thought it would be fun to write a small report or ramblings on what I played over the summer.

A couple of months ago I found myself at Goodwill. As I browsed through the layers upon layers of cables, keyboards, and DVD players I noticed what appeared to be an XBOX logo. Sure enough, there were two Duke XBOX controllers and at five bucks each they seemed like a good deal. As I paid for the controllers and walked out the door I assumed all the controllers needed was a little cleaning. Little did I know they would turn in to the next Retro Repairs project.

When we moved into our house it came as all houses do with various items from the former owner. One of these items was a utility cart for the garage. It had seen some use but the construction was solid and after taking some measurements appeared to be exactly what I needed for my 27" JVC TV and I set about turning it into a retro game cart.

I recently stopped at Goodwill and came across a Halo Green Xbox 360 controller. I noticed it was weathered and the button presses felt like stepping in mud, a telltale sign that someone had spilled soda on it. The back had duct tape holding the battery pack in suggesting that the controller suffered from power issues. I moved the thumbsticks around and surprisingly they centered almost every time. I decided that this controller was worth saving and would be a great project.

As long as video game consoles have been around so too has the 3rd party controller. They can be better in quality than first party controllers but often fall far below expectations. The PS2 has been around for almost 19 years now and finding new 1st party controllers is difficult and expensive. 3rd party alternatives like the Logitech Cordless Action are great but are increasingly difficult to source working units. So I set out to find a PS2 controller with features similar to the Logitech Cordless Action.

When I designed my game room I wanted to have as many systems readily available as possible. To achieve this I had to use several power strips, and video switchers. These along with the consoles and TVs sucked up an alarming amount of electricity and forced me to search for a quick and efficient way to manage the power consumption of my setup.

I've been a fan of the Sega Saturn ever since I was gifted one in 1996. It had a library of games that you couldn't find anywhere else with titles such as Panzer Dragoon, Dragon Force, and Radiant Silvergun. The Saturn was also the first system I imported heavily for discovering titles such as X-men VS Street Fighter, Waku Waku 7, and Metal Slug. It is now 2019 and Saturn games are no longer cheap. To get the most out of my money and Saturn I purchased an all in one Pseudo Saturn cart from eBay seller choijustin. What does this cart do, and why should you buy one over an Action Replay?

To me, 2018 was a great year for gaming with sequels to long-dormant franchises, new takes on old classics, and open world games where traversal is half the fun. As the year draws to a close it's time to reflect upon the games that made an impact on me in 2018. I have collected my top five games for 2018 and will discuss why they matter to me below.

It's that time of year again. People are coming together for food, family, and fun and nothing kills the fun faster than a dead controller or device. When I started building my Game Room I wanted to make sure everything was as pick up and play as possible. This meant if it took longer than two to three minutes to start up and play a game it wasn't going to be worth it. To make sure everything is pick up and play ready I invested in some batteries and chargers that I'll explain here.
