Overview
The Hori Commander has three turbo switches for the A, B, and Z buttons. Similar to the Hudson Joycard 64, Hori Mini Pad and ASCII Pad 64, the Hori Commander was licensed by Nintendo. These Japanese-produced licensed controllers can share the same buttons as Nintendo-produced Nintendo 64 controllers, but due to differing form factors or functionality, some of these parts are unique to these licensed controllers. For the Commander, the B button is the same as well as the joystick module. The L and R buttons use microswitches instead of membranes, so they are not compatible. The A , C, and Start buttons are slightly shorter and are incompatible. The Z button is fractionally smaller and is not compatible with the original controller. The D-Pad is smaller and is also incompatible as are all of the membranes. The controller was likely produced by Nintendo in one of their Japanese factories because it was made in Japan like earlier Nintendo 64 controllers and features the same quality of plastic, coloration and part number location as official Nintendo-produced controllers. The Commander's microswitches, smaller size and shorter buttons make this controller a slightly more "tactile" controller than the original.
Hori Commander controllers all have grey controller plugs. |
Trivia
Clear Green does not have an equivalent color in North America. It is a slightly brighter, more yellow green than Jungle and a darker green than Extreme Green.
