Overview
The ASCII Pad 64 has six turbo switches. The switches for the L and R buttons offer off, turbo and hold settings, and for the A, B and Z buttons, the ASCII Pad 64 offers off, turbo, auto, hold and hold/turbo settings. Similar to the Hudson Joycard 64, Hori Mini Pad and Hori Commander, the ASCII Pad 64 was licensed by Nintendo. These Japanese-produced licensed controllers can share the same buttons as Nintendo-produced Nintendo 64 controllers, but due to differing form factors or functionality, some of these parts are unique to these licensed controllers. For the ASCII Pad 64, the A, B, C, L, R, Z and Start buttons, the D-Pad, the joystick module and the button membranes are the same. The controller's shell is nearly identical, save for the cutouts for the turbo switches and a slight ridge below the switches on the top of the shell; the bottom of the controller shells are compatible. Due to the turbo switches residing on another motherboard, the motherboards are likely incompatible without modification. The controller was likely produced by Nintendo in one of their Japanese factories because it was made in Japan like earlier Nintendo 64 controllers and features the same quality of plastic, coloration and part number location as official Nintendo-produced controllers. The ASCII Pad 64 controllers have either dark blue or dark red controller plugs. |
