Good review. Thanks.
But what about achievements? Do they seem tacked on or well-thought out?
@phoenix1967: Does it matter? He said the game is good.
I really want to get this game.
Achievements are well thought out and attainable, similar in style to Oblivion. In fact I got 46/50 in my first playthrough, the last 4 I need were ones from early in the game and can be cleaned up with a new save file in a couple more hours.
As good as it is, unless I can get a great trade-in for it, I'll wait to get this one.
Reason being that Bethesda will probably release a slew of DLC for it over the next year or so, then put that content into releasing a "special edition"/"GOTY edition" at the standard price. They did it with Oblivion, why wouldn't they with F3?
Without spoiling anything with the story, I could see just as easily why they wouldn't as well.
I'm just playing through the game now and I love it. I haven't been a fan of the Elder games but this one clicks with me in a big way.
I really enjoyed this review Tan, keep them coming.

Great review, Tan!

The opening theme song is what really shines.
Nice review - terrible game.
^Do you like ANY games, Walt? If so, could you list about 5 or so in order to some kind of idea about the games you feel qualify as being at least "satisfactory"?
And if Fallout 3 is "terrible" in your opinion, are you really saying that it "could be better" or are you saying that you think it's not even worth playing? Do you just not like RPGs or what?
@phoenix1967:I've been wondering the same thing.
No offense meant Walt, but you really give the impression that all games suck.
@Sirgin:Why so? I said that Dead Space was a good game and that I liked it. I'm just not the type to blindly give away compliments and declare something is game of the year just because it looks pretty and has alot of open endedness. it isn't that alot of games suck, it's that a vast majority of them are mediocre at best. Only a small number of games truely suck.
Just for reference, I also really like the Time Splitter series since it seems to be something we can relate on given your avatar.
@phoenix1967: Read the first entry for WoRs. I listed a number of games I liked.
It's worth playing terrible is probably the wrong word. It's mediocre with some highlights. The game can be enjoyed, but it's still a bad game, if that makes sense. This isn't a WRPG. It's more like RPG-Lite.
I am curious to try it. I assume that the version reviewed is for X360? Perhaps the graphics should've been judged on PC, since it is more powerful as a console. But maybe it would not matter.
If I am disappointed with F3, I still have my F1 and F2 disks to cheer me up.
@Wolfman Walt:Ok, fair enough.
Saying it's a "terrible" game sounds harsh to me. But that doesn't mean you should go to the other extreme and say it's a "Game of the Year".
@Sirgin: Let me clarify I suppose. It's terrible as a Fallout game. It's mediocre as a game in itself. If I can stop being sick/busy with looking for a new job, I'll review it as I've had one in line for about a week now. Good news is that thanks to Tan's review, I feel no obligation to be remotely nice since he basically said any of the decent things about it.
Excellent review Keith. I had been waiting to hear your take on this game. I am disappointed that the tweaked game engine did not solve some of the graphical issues we saw in Oblivion. I will be picking this up once I have some time to first beat through the rest of Fable II.
Thanks for taking the time to write this and share your thoughts with us. This is a definite pick-up for me.
