Posted under Modern Gaming, Sony, Playstation 3, New Model, THREE HUNDRED NINETY NINE US DOLLARS

The rumored 40GB, $399, model of the Playstation 3 bundled with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray is looking more and more likely. First, there's the rumor that Sony is turning to FoxConn to help make the new model. Then there's the picture of the label of the new model from the FCC website with the new model number of CECHG01. Now, the latest proof of the new PS3 model is on the Blu-ray Savings website. The new program lists a new PS3 model, CECHG01, which is the same one seen on the FCC website. Now, if you know your PS3 models, you'll know that CECHG01 does not match any current model. CECHA01 is the 60GB model, CECHE01/98137 is the 80GB+Motorstorm model, and CECHB01 is the discontinued 20GB model.

Is CECHG01 the new $399 40GB model? All signs point to yes. Now all that's left is for Sony to step forward and confirm it.

399.99 getting better.

$400? Bollocks to that. They'll keep the one model of PS3 in the UK, still sell it for £425 ($850!) but add one extra game no one wants on top of Motorstorm, RFoM and an extra controller.

The game section for the PS3 has the smallest section in stores around here even compared to the DS & PSP ones. Even if it were slashed by half it would still be a waste at this point. Then again, maybe the lack of games is due to people not being able to afford any after buying the system.

I'll stick to my Wii for now.

@Tynstar:
It's only $50 more than the Premium 360 and you get built in WiFi, a 20gb larger hard drive, and Blu-ray. Not to mention, better games. Wink

Tondog, you realize that your "better games" comment is VERY subjective, right?

Well for 50 dollars I can actually play with friends since no one has a PS3.

@ Phoenix

He knows thats why he added the Wink

@Tynstar:
I'm a friend. I have PS3. Smiley

You have Skate and a lot of demos........and a bunch of other games that the PS3 has are not worth playing.

One online retailer has started taking orders for the 40GB model. They've priced it as £279.99 with an RRP of £299.99. $560/600.

The new model has now been confirmed.
