Bubsy 2 - Misprint on spine?

I picked up a complete copy of Bubsy 2 on the Genesis this weekend, and after placing it on the shelf I noticed it had no text on the spine where the title usually exists, it's just red. The developer logo is up on the top however.

I've taken a look around and every other image I can find on the internet has the title in place as usual. Have I picked up a misprint? Is it due to Accolades move to the clamshell and not really getting it right? (no hangtab, larger cart holder)

I actually found a decent scan of another box that shows the spine (Few do) and the same UPC

I'm pretty sure I've got my hands on a misprint! Exciting!

My copy of bubsy II has the name on the spine, as the second image you posted.

Interestingly enough, this has been done permanently on certain titles over the years. Condemned for the Xbox 360 and Astal for the Sega Saturn immediately come to mind - I think they were printing mistakes that were never corrected.

is the part number and dates still the same, maybe in the later runs they left the name off.

Manual : 3050-00229 (Rev. A)

This matches the submission on the database here.

It seems I've found a misprint and not a variation (as this would be different part numbers, correct?)

Is it possible you have a reprint by someone who got the image off the internet? Like from http://www.thecoverproject.net/. Does the paper you have feel like it should? Maybe the previous owner wanted the "no title" look for their games for whatever reason?


Edit: I just checked, the cover project doesn't seem to have Bubsy 2, but that was just an example  anyways....

The paper and printing quality is on par with any other red border genesis game I have. This is 100% first party.

How can I remove doubt in this case (no pun intended); a raw scan? Won't me putting a raw scan online give people the chase to recreate this misprint (which is obviously not desired). Maybe shoot a rubbish video with my iPhone?
