Bridget Jones's Diary
- (2001) - B-
--> Nothing to say really.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
- (2004) - B-
--> The same as the first one.
Rio Bravo
- (1959) - B-
--> This movie is incredibly long considering nothing happens in it outside of the final few scenes. I don't mind dialogue in movies, but atleast the plot should evolve. In this movie, you get 2 hours of talking about nothing.
Emma
- (1996) - B+
--> A great and fun movie. It's the second time I've seen this one.
Tai-Pan
- (1986) - B
--> A bit cheesy, okay very cheesy. But fun in some parts.
The Jungle Book
(1967) - A
--> What a classic. Still holds up better today than most movies released now.

not "right now" but for new years day a couple friends and i will be doing a LotR extended editions marathon. one of my friends hasn't read the book or seen the movies, so i'm interested to see how someone with little to no knowledge of them reacts to things. i wanted her to read the books first but she's really lazy and it's just not going to happen unfortunately. at least with the movies my other friend and i can make her get through them all (she's into it too so it's not all forced
)
"What kind of people could watch all three movies?"
"If the task is breached the movies will fall."
"Even if it is breached it would take a day beyond reckoning to watch them all, hours!"
"TENS of hours!"
"But my lord there is no such day!"

My favorite its always sunny episode is definitely "the D.E.N.N.I.S system" one. Coincidentally also the first episode I ever saw.

Having seen just about every
Air Crash Investigation
episode twice, and now new ones forthcoming for a little while, I've been checking out other air-crash docs like this TV New Zealand presentation on the Mt. Erebus crash in Antarctica:
And I'm starting to dig into what has become an annual favorite from the east end of "the pond":
Charlie Brooker's 2013 Wipe.
(Available on YouTube)
My fave part of what I've seen so far are the SanFran Fox affiliate news channel's reciting of the obviously phony flight-crew names of the Asiana crash at SFO. Seriously, they actually thought Captain Sum Ting Wong and co-pilot Ho Lee Fuk were real names? 10-year-old crank callers come up with less hackish material! No wonder I don't take the news media seriously...
UPDATE: I removed the YouTube embed for
2013 Wipe
after remembering one segment showing bare boobs-- and really nice ones at that-- as well as a split-second photomontage of schlongage. Better safe than sorry...

Watching movies is just about the only thing I've been doing this month besides studying for exams. I've managed to watch quite a lot of movies, actually..
The Wizard of Oz
- (1939) - B+
--> First time I've seen this movie. It's nice and sweet, but didn't amaze me. Then again, for a 1939 film, the picture quality seemed excellent. Of course, when it comes to less popular old movies, I very much doubt whether studios bother to rescan them digitally.
Enchanted
- (2007) - B
--> Quite a funny movie. I'm sure it's quite hard to act naive and make it believable as done in this one by Giselle.
Suspicion
- (1941) - C-
--> For a Hitchcock movie, I was dissapointed. However, this movie has perhaps one of the best comedy-to-thriller transitions I've ever seen. Really subtle and effective. Chaplin should've watched this before making A King in New York. But other than that, the movie is a bit daft and the ending so lame it almost seems as if they simply ran out of funds.
Tron: Legacy
- (2010) - B
--> Cool effects, the Grid looks so much nicer than in the original (no surprise there though). I really liked the music by Daft Punk. Some of the songs I need to check out on Youtube. Other than that, it's a relatively standard action movie. Oh, but cool how they had the younger Jeff Bridges in there.
Pretty Woman
- (1990) - C
--> Meh, nothing to say.
Casino
- (1995) - A
--> Great movie. Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci are great in this. I suppose Sharon Stone is as well, but her character is obnoxious.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
- (2009) - C+
--> Not too impressed with this one. Yes, there are some fun sequences. But the animation feels a bit lacking in parts, and so does the plot. I realize that just about all animated movies have the same basic plot, but this one just felt too cliché.
The Sound of Music
- (1965) - A-
--> How could you not love this movie? I find it best to only watch it every 3-4 years at most, though.
Shooter
- (2007) - B-
--> Some parts are exciting, the main "getaway" perhaps most so. I did like the technical talk about the sniper stuff. About halfway through the movie, the sniper focus fades somewhat and is replaced by commonplace action.
Titanic
- (1997) - B
--> You're here, there's nothing I fear...lalallaa.
Tropic Thunder
- (2008) - B-
--> My favorite scenes are the ones with Tom Cruise. Oh, and the director stepping on the landmine is great.
Highlander: Endgame
- (2000) - D-
--> Even worse than the original (haven't seen the other 2-3 movies). The villain in this one is especially stupid.

And I've seen more movies still. Though I intend to pick up gaming again now that my exams are over (I've literally barely gamed at all these past 2-3 months
)
American Pie 2
- (2001) - C+
--> These are all pretty much the same movie.
Proof
- (2005) - B-
--> This movie started promising, but the ending let me down. I wished there was an actual exhibition (with professors and academics) of the proof.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
- (2003) - B+
--> Really cool movie. What I found most interesting is how there young boys who are officers-to-be (I guess) that already command some of the sailors and seamen.
Melancholia
- (2011) - D-
--> I guess I understand what this movie is trying to be, but I just don't like it. It feels too....pretentious. And the characters are very tiring and annoying to watch. It is however interesting how this has the same basic plot as Armageddon yet is a completely different movie altogether. Armageddon may be filled with typical American movie clichés, but it's way more enjoyable to watch.
The Nanny Diaries
- (2007) - C+
--> Too average of a movie to really compliment. It's watchable, especially if you're not paying that much attention, but that's about it.
The Blues Brothers
- (1980) - B+
--> Great movie, but I wasn't hooked immediately. At first I thought the plot was slow and the scenes were random. Certainly a movie that gets better towards the end.
The Devil Wears Prada
- (2006) - B-
--> A movie about fashion and stuff.
Fireflies in the Garden
- (2008) - B
--> Decent drama, but the ending wasn't as interesting as I had hoped.
Drive
- (2011) - A
--> Great movie. I like the "behind the driver" fixed camera angle that they use here for many of the driving scenes. The music also fits in really well with the nighttime scenes.
Bright Star
- (2009) - B
--> A good movie, but not great because some of its characters are really annoying: Brown is just an arse and Fanny's super obsessive nature is a bit...unrealistic? (in my opinion).
Cars 2
- (2011) - B-
--> Noticably worse than any other Pixar movie I've seen (most of them). The main, and perhaps only, issue is that there is way too much plot crammed into the movie. As a result, rather predictably, there's hardly any time for reflection or slower scenes in general, and as a result the movie hurts because of it. Could've been much better.
Julie & Julia
- (2009) - B+
--> Fun movie about a girl that wants to cook all recepies in a famous cookbook in a year.
Lethal Weapon 4
- (1998) - C+
--> Okay action movie, but not amazing.

I decided to get away from air disaster shows for a while, and went for some more light-hearted fare.
So I watched several documentaries about people with rare diseases and genetic disorders. The one about some children who were unable to sense pain-- and therefore couldn't tell whether they'd been injured-- was a real downer...
...but apparently not enough of a downer, as I continued my marathon of fun and frivolity with a doc filmed by a man whose mother, aunts and half/step-aunts were all repeatedly molested by his sadistic grandpa when they were kids. The molested women were shockingly candid about what gramps did to them back in the day, leaving little to the imagination. I wasn't surprised that several of the victims ended up alcoholic, suicidal, and/or practically homeless.
I topped things off by viewing profiles of people who'd been wrongfully convicted of heinous crimes, fought for their release from prison, and were eventually freed. Relatively upbeat stuff compared to the previous shows I just watched, even if most of the subjects profiled languished in the clink for two decades or more. Really restores my faith in the American justice system, lemme tell ya.
Now I know what you're thinking: I probably should stop watching this stuff... and you're probably right. It's bad enough I have a low opinion of humanity as it is, but what I just witnessed made me not want to leave the house even more than I already do.
All right, I'm done bumming you out, it's off to bed with me.

I've been on a Netflix marathon over the last few days. Some of these i checked out a couple weeks ago.
The Rig - Creature escapes from the depths and attacks a deep sea oil rig.
MegaQuake: Hour That Shook Japan - Nuclear fallout anyone?
Ben Franklins Pirate Fleet - Don't remember most of it. Watched it over several nights before falling asleep.
Nova: Mystery of Easter Island - see above. Though i am pretty sure i've seen it before. Nova tends to get recycled A LOT.
Nat Geo Secret of Yosemite - Beautiful landscape.
Discovery Atlas: Uncovering Earth - 5 eps covering various places
Dirty Jobs - saw all of these when the show first aired. Watched most of them with my son. Skipped anything with animal breeding though. Not interested in explaining a giant horse dick or why a guy is elbow deep in a cows butt to my 6 year old.
Nova Secrets of the Sun - outdated.
Nova: Deadliest Volcanoes - see above and/or nothing you haven't heard before if you are interested in the subject.
Raging Planet 8 eps - saw some of these when they had first aired. Still kinda interesting though.
Is It Possible 3 eps - Dated. Nothing really special or that hasn't been shown again on other shows.
Weird or What? 7 eps - See above. But include national geographic magazine in the list of places that had some of the same stuff. Like the Cocaine Mummies mystery.
Tornado Rampage 2011 - Who remembers the rampaging tornados?
Surviving Katrina - don't remember most of it. Watched it over several nights to fall asleep.
Sinking of an Aircraft Carrier - Don't get too excited Zag. Was decommissioned and being turned into a man made reef.
Mega Engineering season 1(?) - Seen almost all of these before too. Dated info. Some of it completely asinine. Like building a dome over Houston. "What is the most creative way we can waste billions of dollars in resources and man hours and claim it will be beneficial?"
Red Dawn (the "new" one) - I liked it. Thor and the ex fat kid from Drake and Josh are in it. It also lead me too.....
Tomorrow When The War Began - Same premise but in Australia. Because every nation wants to invade The Outback. Had kind of a different atmosphere though. Unique enough that i also enjoyed it.
Stake Land - kinda strange. I think it came out when the other Adventure/Zombie/etc land movies did. Vampires and religious whackos are destroying the world. Started in the south. Shocking...
Unknown - Also strange. It all comes together eventually but putting the pieces together is kind of long winded. They try to throw you a curve ball but it ends up being REALLY obvious.
Olympus Has Fallen - Morgan Freeman should be the president IRL. But if he is he will need more balls than he had in the movie. Never give in to demands.
John Dies at the End - weird... spoiler alert. the title is a lie.
Turbo FAST 5 eps - Watched these with my son. Actually not bad. Kinda hope they make more episodes
End of Watch - turned this one off to watch Turbo. I think i caught the last 15ish minutes of this before. Because i knew what was going to happen but it shouldn't have been so obvious. Enjoyed it.
Nova: Ice Age Death Trap - on now but i just realized i saw it a couple months ago and never rated it. Stupid Netflix putting items up for suggestion that i have already watched.
On regular TV
Almost Human - love this show.
Brooklyn 99 - Love this show.
Helix - Actually dislike most of the characters/backstory on this show but just want to know WTF is going on so i have to keep watching.
Modern Family - wish i had started watching it sooner.
Being Human - Half the time i like it 1/4 of the time is meh, 1/4 of the time i have limited interest.
a bunch of other stuff i can't remember now because i am up too late posting when i should be sleeping.

Snowday today when i wasn't shoveling a foot of snow i was watching movies... while grinding Ascend again...
Indie Game: The Movie - excellent. Games primarily focused on were Super Meat Boy, Braid, Fez. Was really more about the process and effect it had on the guys making the games than about the games themselves. Highly recommended.
Battle Royale - have the second one queued up. Maybe check it out tomorrow.
Parker - Statham flick. He gets the shit kicked out of him more than once too.
Blitz - Statham again.
Sharknado - so fantastically terrible you can't help but keep watching it.
Rubber - wanted it to be like above. But was so terrible i couldn't even be bothered to keep scene skipping to find the good parts.
Assault on Wall St - Too long winded(WAY to much background/lead up to the Assault) probably could have been condensed into a 30 minute movie the bulk of which being the actual assault. Rampage was better.
