Cloverfield
OK/Pretty good. The first twenty minutes were too long. After that I think it flowed fairly well. Something I didn't like was someone being pulled off a spike through their chest then moments later they were running around.
Don't forget that all of them, outside of the pilot of course, survived a helicopter crash. The camera managed to remain undamaged. The cameraman was then 'bitten' by the huge creature, who for some reason just dropped his dead, unmutilated body back to the ground. Again, the camera was undamaged.
Then
the main character risks life and limb to rescue the camera before they sprint away from the monster.
This was just one of the many issues I had. Even for a movie about a huge, destructive creature, this was so far fetched and unbelievable that I just couldn't enjoy it.
There seems to be a huge difference between his TV shows and his movies. Everyone keeps saying he'll do wonders for Star Trek. Yeah well I'll believe it when I see it, the trailers are bad enough.

The more I see that Star Trek trailer, the more interested I am. I still don't think it's going to revolutionize the series, but it looks like it will be decent.

The ship battles could be amazing, it's the Corvettes and slutty sex I take issue with. It cheapens the movie somewhat.

That classic Star Trek series was fairly trashy in it's own right. The slutty sex and snazzy cars is really nothing more than a modernization of some of the outdated events from the original series.

Therein lies the problem. A tender embrace or kiss from the original series isn't quite the same as 2 sweaty people rolling around in bed. I just hope he remembers somewhere along the line that this is a science fiction movie not cable porn.

You have to take Cloverfield with a grain of salt, but it's a freakin' amazing feat of filmmaking that has not been done to such a degree before. OK, so there are some realism issues, LIKE THERE'S A FUCKING GIANT MONSTER! but every movie has realism issues, and this one went places other movies have not.
As a fan of Original Star Trek I do think J.J. will do an awful job and bastardize the series.

Has nothing to do with the movie, but while I was packing, I found the issue of the Rolling Stone you use as your avatar
It's one of the 2 issues I've ever bought.

I don't think I ever actually read one. I just thought the picture was visually appealing way back when, and I kinda just stuck with it ever since. I've had this avatar on a lot of sites for a really long time now. Kinda crazy I never switched it out.....even when she was bald and crazy.

Saw Gran Torino. AMAZING, Eastwood should get an Oscar for his performance, and as far as 2008 goes it has my best picture award.

Yesterday:
Chicken Run
- (2000) - A
--> Fantastic movie.
This morning I saw
Saturday Kitchen
. It was fun but I can't believe how unmannered Mel B is. When James Martin was wrapping up the episode she bluntly interrupted him to advertise her DVD. I almost fell out of my chair.

There is nothing better than an old guy telling a bunch of hoodlum kids to "Get off my lawn."
