I can't stop watching these goddamned airliner disaster documentaries.

Fortunately, some of them ended up without any fatalities, like Sully's ditch into the Hudson a few years back:

And the Air Transat glide-in:

But then there was the El Al jumbo jet plowing into an Amsterdam apartment complex:

But the most disturbing was the mid-air collision over Uberlingen:

The collision re-enactment was perfectly edited to really convey the terror of the moment to the viewer, and really driving home how tragic it was. If there's an Emmy for best editing in a documentary series, this scene should have won it, hands down. Some of the scariest and saddest stuff I've seen in a while. And don't get me started on the part where the man whose family was wiped out in the crash sought revenge on the air-traffic controller who was on duty that night, adding yet another layer of tragedy to the deal.

This particular episode had me so rattled, it totally put me off watching airliner-crash docs...

...for about two days.

Then I went on a marathon, checking out the stories of JAL 123, Tenerife, United 811, TWA 800, and others.

Now I'm in the middle of watching one on the notorious Runway 35L at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil:

Forget about sit-coms and reality shows; THIS is must-see TV!

World War Z

Awful. Just... bloody awful. Half the cinema was sniggering during some of it because it was so bad.

Yeah you can tell from the preview there's just nothing to it.

Saw the Great Gatsby yesterday. Was OK, they had some odd stylistic choices as far as cinematography and music, but it wasn't terrible.

Watched the first episode of the Killing. Was interesting, don't know if I'm hooked though. Was cool seeing places in Seattle I'd literally stood used in the show.

watched the first 2 parts (all that's out so far) of James Rolfe (AVGN) and his friend playing and discussing Atari 2600 games. i remember playing a lot of these as a kid and haven't seen them since, until now. really makes me want to get an atari 2600, i feel like my collection will never be quite right without one.

It's ok.  I'm from Seattle too so it's cool to see all the overhead shots of the city and all the references to the Puget sound.  But, the show is a little convoluted.  I'm up to season 3 now and i don't know if I'm going to finish it.

Got lucky and found 3 out of 4 of the DVD sets in a package deal for $20 at one of my local Pawnshops, and he's going to call me if he comes across the other one while putting out stock.
