I'm just wondering if any of you have continued to play the new .hack installments.  I know it's probably been a few months since the last one was released, but I haven't heard much about the series since the first one came out.  Should I get the first one?  Are the new installments any good?

I think its a good game, tho each game is more or less the last game ( gameplay wise) the story is why you play tho its has one of the best storys in a game in a while. there cheap enof now were you could probly get all 4 for under 50$

It certainly wasn't worth it to pay $200 for a storyline.  Now that they are cheap maybe.

I really despise episodic gaming like .Hack and Xenosaga.

Somebody was telling me the other day that it's almost impossible to make any sense out of the story in the games without watching every episode of the anime.  Is there any truth to this?

.Hack is one of the trials of "episodic gaming" meaning that the story line is broken into 4 games each sold originaly at full retail price.  Each plays more or less the same as the others.  Together they offer something like 80 hours of gameplay.

There is also and animated series by the name of
.Hack that has something to do with the games but I don't know what.
