I've been wondering if there's anyone who is older than the typical retro/hardcore gamer, which from my knowledge is 16-35 (I don't really know I'm guessing to be the youngest, at 15). I don't mean some grampa/grandma who only plays games recently. But has been playing video games everyday since Pong/Magnavox Odyssey and still does. I'm guessing the youngest person for that category would be 44 (if they played a Magnavox Odyssey when it launched in 1973, when they were 12) but who do you think the oldest gamer is who said "I played Pong when it was first in arcades in 1977" and can prove it?

There are a few older gamers here. I'm sure there are lots of them around honestly. You aren't going to find anyone who's played video games every day for 36 years, but you'll find people who've remained interested and involved in video games over that period of time.

My father played from the 70s and inthiso the early 2000s alone and with me and my brother until we stopped talking

My grandmother(dads side) still plays her DS i ended up with all her SNES and PSX stuff. I'm not sure what happened to the older stuff... She's some where in her 60s.

Edit
there where many times i would get my dad to play games that he grew up on with me. We had the same favs, Asteroids and Centipede

I played it with my Dad when I was a kid in a bar-restaurant. I'm currently 41. My first system was the Atari 2600.

I have had bouts of time off between consoles, though. When I sold off my Atari, I didn't get another console until the NES. And then traded in my NES stuff for Genesis when it came out. After selling off the Genesis collection, I had another drought until January 2004 when I picked up and Xbox1.

Since then, I've been collecting and catching up on all of them.

Just my $.02 about me.

As far as hardcore gamer throughout, though, my vote would go to den68. He actually bought and kept all his stuff throughout all the changes and advances in consoles, and he'll be 41 in April.

This is not a category\poll that I particularly want to 'win' at this stage in my life, but I did experience the Magnavox Odyssey when it was released back in 1972.  My uncle purchased it for my cousin and we would play (I was 6, my cousin 8 at the time).  I still remember how brutal those controllers were.  At the time, they were bigger than my hand.  Since then I have been hooked.

Regarding evidence, you need to look no further than my profile which contains some pics of my collection.  I'll be 43 in June.

Welcome to RFG by the way.  It is always good to see younger gamers such as yourself join our community - it helps keep us 'old folks' on top of our game.  Easy with the 'grandpa' (and like) monikers - we prefer 'old school gamer'  Smiley  Just a friendly tip from a fellow gamer since we can be an extremely beneficial resource to you.

Happy gaming and enjoy the forums and RFG!

I think my mother has even Den beat. She's kept everything she bought (even fought with me over games) and she just turned 65. She's been playing since before my birth (I was born in 80). Her fav consoles are the 7800, NES, SNES, and N64. The last console she bought was the 360. The only thing she doesn't do is play online. She used to but got sick of the harassment pretty quick. Can't say that I blame her on that one.
