It's the laser that needs to be replaced.  Some of the first generation PS2s did this.  It cannot read DVD games.

Actually the ps2 that I got is a 50001 model and is quite newer than the first generation models that you are talking about....You are probably right about what's wrong with it though...just wanted to say that it was a newer version.

I didn't know it was happening with the newer models.  It happened to a friend of mine.  We replaced the laser and it worked great afterwards!

I was going to say the same exact thing but I didn't know it was a newer one.  It might still be a laser problem?  Try cleaning the laser head?

During Easter I got my hands on another copy of Trolls in Crazyland (NES/PAL-B/loose), I had to give away SMB3 (loose) for it  |D

A CIB copy of Krusty's Fun House (NES/PAL-A) and two loose NTSC carts; Bignose the Caveman and Bible Adventure.

And Fahrenheit for PS2.

Yesterday I got a NES paperback; Mastering Nintendo Video Games

And 11 Dreamcast games for $90 (all PAL/CIB)

NES - Babrie $3 (Been looking for this for a while, had the manual but no game) Cart Only

Genesis - Columns and Cool Spot, Cart Only $2 a piece, Toxic Crusaders with box for $3
