yeah... But... estarland... It shipping... Globally... At... Good... Prices...

I'm sorry, but 20 euro for a harry potter game seems like robbery to me, that's all.

Huh?

$27 USD for a brand new PS2 game is a bad deal? Since when? No PAL copies on eBay, or this eStarland, buyer didn't have to pay shipping or customs or wait a week for it and got to see it in person before purchase. Sounds like a decent small score to me.

========

Picked up a box & manual for Twisted Metal 2 for the PC. First time I've seen one of these and apparently quite uncommon. Doesn't have the game disc but is otherwise in great shape plus has the jewel case inside along with the reg. card. Only $5 so I figured why the hell not, I can always complete it later.

Picked up:

Sega Multi-Player Adapter - $1.99
Columns (PAL, CIB) - $3.99

Now I need some four player action.

You don't have to decide what is a bad deal or not in my place. I'm an adult and I can make decisions myself. I wanted the game and I find €20 a good price for any game that I want if it's new.

I'll explain it one last time: There's no Goodwill here, no GameStop and nothing else that resembles that kind of shops. A second-hand market does not exist here like it exists in the US.

I have NEVER seen a game from more than 1 generation ago in a store. NEVER. It just doesn't exist here. I've accepted that, I suggest you do the same and be happy that your country has such fantastic stores for retrogame collectors like yourself.

A kid at the register in front of me paid €59.99 for FIFA '09 on the 360. (just to give you an idea) So even though you think that €20 for a new game is an outrage, it's a great deal for me in Belgium. You cannot (or very rarely) find PS2 games below €19.99. It just isn't there.

PS: I've looked up the game on Estarland and what do I find? An NTSC, used version of the game for $14.50. Obviously an NTSC game is worthless to me but even if I could play them, I don't see why $14.50 +shipping for a used game is such a good deal and $27 for a new game is not.

I guess it is just going over my head. Us American's are privvy to being spoon fed games at low prices. The main reason why I was so shocked is because you can get new copies of that HP game for $9.99 new here in the states. $27 for a new PS2 game almost never happens, unless it was just released. All the old stock (like that harry potter game) is at $9.99, $19.99, or (in the case of God of War 2) $29.99.

I guess it is just a whole different world... Solution? Move to the US for 1.5 weeks and buy a ton of cheap games, then ship 'em back. Crazy you say? When I am old enough, I will be doing the same thing, except replace Japan with US. ($22 for SMB + $9 Shipping? NTY!) The trick though is to buy enough games where you make up the cost difference for the plane ticket! laugh

Yes, very crazy. Because NTSC games generally don't work on PAL hardware.

As James pointed out, there really is no way to escape the higher prices here.

I know I could buy NTSC consoles and NTSC games but I don't want to go through that hassle because it's just not worth it. Wink

Another game came in the mail yesterday but I just found out this morning.

I kinda wish the name had been left as Thunder Force IV...

and here's a big NES haul:

Dr. Mario (with Manual),
Millipede,

Double Dragon (beat label),
Double Dragon II (beat label),
Arkista's Ring,
Klax (Tengen),
Pac Man (Tengen),

I was pretty hesitant on that NES lot for $40, and I couldn't talk him down any lower.  But I saw the Tengen titles and figured 'what the hell' so I bought it.
