I've gone to a couple Goodwills like that. 40 bucks for a genesis system, 50 for a Playstation. A place closer to me isn't as bad but they price by what the original tag price was if it's still attached.. 25 bucks for Hitman 2? No thanks.

I doubt that overpricing is exclusive to Goodwill. I think it's an issue with thrift stores in general, and it varies wildly. All the thrifts I hit, and there are several (Value World, Salvation Army, Goodwill, St Vincent DePaul) seem to have staff that's sole job is to price merchandise. I'm not sure what qualifications are needed to be a pricer but the prices seem to be based on the whim of the pricer. Whatever they deem is collectible or valuable is priced higher and often times it's humorous.

I've been in thrifts where there's a Genesis in the showcase for $40 and a bag full of 20 or so 2600 carts on the regular shelves marked $5. It's frustrating when something you want is way overpriced but it's something you get used to if you shop thrifts frequently.

I think it would be interesting to spend a day with a pricer just to see what rational they use to determine value. I would surely be entertaining.

Went on a weekend getaway and stoped in a big city on the way back to do some shopping.

- Aero The Acrobat (CIB) $3.99
- Taz In Escape From Mars (CIB) $0.99
- Shadowrun (CIB) $2.99
- Jurassic Park (Sega CD) (CIB) $0.99
- Eco-Creatures Save The Forest (NDS) (New) $19.99

Not a bad weekend getaway at all. Got some R&R in one of my favorite vacation spots and got some games also.

Nice find. The last time I saw that was at a pawn shop near my house. I think they wanted $37 for it.

I work at a thrift store and I know that the pricers for the jewelery and furniture study threads and check pricing guides. But the people who price the games normally just blanket price things and if stuff doesn't sell they mark it down over time until it does and then price the next one accordingly. Of course there are some pricers who are better than others.

On the finds front I picked up Tenchu Z and Vampire Rain used for 5 bucks each from EB today.
Edit: Just found out the Tenchu Z(or Vampire Rain) was my 50th for the 360

I picked up a few games at my local pawn shops this last week.
Rainbow Island (NES) - $5
Duck Tales (NES) - $5
Killer 7 (GCN) - $10

And I paid full retail price for Mario Kart Wii but I had been given a gift card and only spent .39 of my own money to cover the taxes so that was cool. I cant wait to get off work tonight and sink into Rainbow Island!!

I had a couple of nice finds over the past two days.  Yesterday I stopped at a Salvation Army near work at lunch time and spotted a Virtual Boy box low on the shelf behind the cash register.  Since that's the usually spot for stuff they think is worth way more then it is I wasn't that thrilled but asked to see it anyway.  I was surprised to see it was only marked at $14.99 and it was complete and it pretty good shape.

Then today on the way home from work I stopped at another Salvation Army.  As usually I went by the VHS tapes to see what might be hiding in them.  I often find Genesis games or even boxed NES games that have been put on that shelf.  Neither of those today instead I nabbed 10 CIB Jaguar games for 99 cents each.  I searched around to make sure they didn't have the system somewhere too but no such luck.  Here the list:

Alien vs. Predator
Brutal Sports Football
Iron Soldier
Raiden
Rayman
Syndicate
Tempest 2000
Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy
Val d'Isere Skiing and Snowboarding
Wolfenstein 3D

Not a bad lot for $10  Grin

Yeah now I am going to finally test out the Jag I found at a thrift a few months ago.  All I had before was Cybermorph and that was enough to make make me fire it up.
