Master System:
Form:
XXXX for Sega Games
40XX Card 32Kbit
45XX Cartridge 32Kbit
5XXX 1 Mbit Cartridge
6XXX Combo Cartridge
7XXX 2 Mbit Cartridge
8XXX 3D Cartridge
9XXX 4 Mbit Cartridge
2XXXX-CC or MK-2XXXX-CC for most 3rd-party games
25XXX 1 Mbit Cartridge
27XXX 2 Mbit Cartridge
29XXX 4 Mbit Cartridge
41XXX for german releases
Location:
Side of box:
The older ones (without a printed UPC) have an additional Part# on the UPC sticker. This code has an additional MK and the -50. See the example above.
On Sega Cards:
The Sega Cards (except the german versions) have the Part# on the front too. There is a letter behind but I don't know the meaning of this.
Note:
Some very early games (1986ers) don't have an # on the box, but all of them where rereleased with an #. Such a games has only english text on the back cover.

The CC is not confirmed yet to be something else than 50 (a regionwide release). Country specific codes (as for Master System and Dream Cast) are likely to exist.
Location
For Sega Games:
Back-cover on the bottom left.
Note
Not all Mega Drive games have an ID and a lot of publishers use there one ones.
