Someday I should share the secret of how I went from 270 down to 190 in a single year.

What, you never heard of amputation?

Actually, considering the recent tragedy in Boston, I probably shouldn't be bringing that kind of thing up.

Anyway, earlier this week I weighed in below 250 for the first time since the start of the year.

And I plan to hit the trails full-bore tomorrow. God knows the weather's awesome enough 'round here for that kinda thing.

Well, I only gained 4 pounds when I went back to the gym on Monday, bringing me up to 189.  I had to skip my normal Wednesday work out this week.  I started on the treadmill and got maybe a tenth of a mile into my run and everything cramped up at once.  I took that as a sign that I probably should take it easy until I'm back in the rhythm.

Been lethargic as of late.  Going to hit the punching back 20-25 minutes for the rest of this week, as well as detox to be able to hit the gym the following week.

Celebrated my triumphant return to the trails by doing about 9 miles yesterday.

Been gettin' away from the free-weights routine, though-- need to get back on track there.

Especially seein' as how I'm 3 pounds up from last week's weigh-in...

Yeah, but everyone wants to know how your ankle is doing. Didn't you break it off or loose it or get a new one or something a few weeks ago?

It seems to be holding up pretty well after my little jaunt on Tuesday.

Though at one point I almost stepped on this fellow:

As soon as this California kingsnake was aware of me, he got into the defensive posture you see here, and pretended to be a rattlesnake by rapidly shaking the tip of his tail. I found that kinda funny.

Anyhoo: today I added a little more weight to several of my free-weight routines. For example, I upped the dumbbells I use for my dumbbell bench presses to 17.5 pounds each from 17. And yes, I'm aware that bench-pressing 35 pounds total is rather pathetic. But that's three sets of eight reps each, which is pretty good compared to three weeks ago, when it was two sets of ten reps with 25 pounds.

Been plumpin' up over the last couple months, back up to 257. Been trying to get in at least 3 miles of hill-hiking a day, 4 days a week. I hit the trails in the late afternoon, and stay on the east side of the hills so I'm in the shade much of the time.
