Both systems are great. I remember back in the day I refused to upgrade from my Mega Drive/Mega-Cd/32x/Master System as I had built up such a large library that ran all on the one awesome system.

In the end Dragon Force convinced me I should get a Saturn. The system is amazing, and has THE best version of Street Fighter Zero 3 that even put the DC to shame. You can find a lot of really good titles for the Saturn, however the 16-bit days truly are the glory days of gaming. I say start with the Genesis.

Genesis by far, but the Saturn had some great games as well. Three Dirty Dwarves, Panzer Dragoon, Dragon Force, and my favorite Saturn exclusive Guardian Heroes were all available on the Saturn exclusively (To the best of my knowledge) and were excellent games. I actually wanted a Saturn over a PS1 because of Dragon Force, luckily my parents made the better decision that Christmas. One of the few times they've ever been right about this sort of thing.

Definately the Genesis.  It has some great games and many to choose from.

The Saturn was in that akward graphics phase, when 3D was becoming the thing.  I still think those types of graphics are the worst.

But there are some diamonds in the rough.

Heh, guess you're right. In no way was I trying to put pressure on him or something. Wink

But I think you know what I mean. I'd consider a Saturn "essential" but a 3DO or an Intelllivision not. But most likely many people will say otherwise.

Oh, I own Combat even though I only have 4 2600 games. Cheesy

You can't pressure me about video games I swear lol Don't worry about it. I think I'll probably go with the Genesis sometime soon and then get the Saturn later...MAYBE b/c cverz2 is right the Saturn is in one of those bad 3D graphic times...which I don't really like.

Go with the genesis first... its cheaper in everyway (system, games, acces. etc.). But if your really want a saturn I would get one sooner than later.. Good systems are getting harder to find, and the better saturn games already run quite a bit more than most of the better genesis games, and they'll only get higher as time goes on.

I think if you define what systems should make up a "serious collection", you'd find very few here fit the bill as that would easily be 35-40 systems or more. Hell only 184 of 1126 collectors own Combat for the 2600!

Make it 185 Cheesy with my recent 2600 haul

For US games, Genesis. But for Japanese games, definitely the Saturn.
