Yes the official one is much more expensive though. 60-80$s. of course those are all imports.
I never bothered getting new cables for my systems unless the old ones broke/died. Never had TVs where it would make any difference so the money was better spent on games/mem cards/controllers

I had no idea those cables were so valuable! I'll have to be sure to keep my eyes open for them when I'm out from now on.

Did you see the fine print in that auction?

Please note that the Gamecube cable is NOT a component cable, but an AV cable. All others are components.

As it seems to be with all 3rd party cables, multi or not. Of course to top that off you have to have an older Cube because they removed that port around the time the Platinum ones were introduced. Some Plats have it some don't but from then no cube had that digital AV port when the stock was replenished.

I figure the port removal is why these 3rd parties don't use component for GameCube in their products as new systems wouldn't need it.

Here's a bit more info if your interested:

Sorry I should have clarified. When I meant the Platinums Cubes I meant the ones bundled with Paper Mario and Metroid that came in 2004. From then on they had no digital ports regardless of colour. It's an easy way to age a system because it's either 2001- March 31st 2004 (digital port) or April 1st 2004-2007 (no port).

Seeing just how expensive those official GameCube Component cables are, I think I had an excellent price on the next best thing. The Component hook-up for a GameCube isn't exactly convenient either, because the Digital port only carries the video. You still need a seperate cable that plugs in the Analog port for the audio.

Also, I'd like to point out that NTSC and Japanese GameCubes do not support RGB out. Only PAL GameCubes do. So you guys either have to use Composite/S-video or spend tons of money on the real Component cables. Wink

Check out http://maru-chang.com/hard/dol/english.htm for more info on the cable (DOL-013). That page also says the retail price was £19.95 (which was like €25 at the time) so I really don't see how my deal was so bad. Tongue

I agree about spending money on good cables. They make a world of difference. It's no different than spending good money on audio cables for your surround sound. If you're going to spend the money on nice equipment, why do yourself a disservice by cheaping out on the accessories?
Yes exactly. Not spending money on good cables would be like buying a great car but putting moped tires on it. You'll never get the full experience.

Well if you would, you'd understand why I don't have a problem spending that much on a cable. Wink

EDIT: Just checked my Cube. It has the Digital port. Smiley

I bought my component cable from ebay a year ago for ~$40, and it was definately worth it.  It makes games that support it look noticeably better.

I wish I knew about them when Nintendo.com was selling them for ~$30 new Sad

Doesn't it also makes games that don't support progressive scan look nicer/sharper?

Just really needed Jimmy Connor's Tennis from this group, so Kirby and Yoshi's Cookie will be going into my sale/trade list.

Haven't won it yet, but I'm hopeful.  As long as it doesn't get too high.
