If you've got 15min to spare, be sure to check this one out. You can tell they put quite a lot of effort into this:

Good overview. I wasn't aware of the newer console version.

Coincidently, I wish I could forget.

Edit: As something worth saying - most of the Fallout community didn't hate/decry Van Buren like this video makes it sound. I know that I, myself, was really looking forward to it. What the video doesn't present is the politics that were going on at the time with Interplay and their dumb Frenchman leader, Herve Caen.

The problem was this - Van Buren was only being made to keep all the Fallout fans happy while they pumped all their money into Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel because Caen decided that there was more money in whoring out their two top franchises on the console market than making quality games for the PC.  When Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 didn't sell as well as the company had hope, partially because of communities such as Duck and Cover (My home) and No Mutants Allowed gave Interplay a really hard time, but also because the game came out right next to the better reviewed Champions of Norath, Interplay scrapped Van Buren which was about 70% finished and only needed about 3 more months. If they'd have done something that wasn't utterly retarded and actually gave Black Isle, the developers behind Fallout, more than 8 people and actually PAYED folks, I think Interplay would actually still be around and Fallout 3 wouldn't be the abomination it is.

A shame too because BG: DAII is much better than the first one. My wife and I both being a fan of those types of games, even Brotherhood of Steel is enjoyable.

I really enjoyed BG:DAII as well. I'm hoping that Bioware's Dragon Age Origins goes back to their Baldur's Gate roots when it comes out next year like they're promoting in the latest GI.

@Tan, how did you like Brotherhood of Steel. I haven't picked up a copy yet. Is it similar in style of play & quality as BG:DAII?

It's a bit lower on the scale compared to Dark Alliance. Ranged weapons are hard to use and it's more difficult as opposed to melee, but it has the same core gameplay, level progression and inventory/character management. It also has the crude humor and dialog of the Fallout series.

I can't speak for every region but it seems to be a harder game to find for either Xbox or PS2. Besides my copy I've only seen it once or twice. If your a Dark Alliance/Heroes/Bard's/Norrath fan, you won't be disappointed by picking this up. In fact I'll go out on a limb here and say it's probably closer to what they are doing with Fallout 3 than the other 3 games are.
