Is there a way to check and see what game(s) is owned by the most people on our site.
Just curious!

Hmmm, I don't think so.
There's the
Top Rated games
, though. Although not the same, a lot of high rated games will be owned by a lot of people.
I didn't check the entire list but the US Super Mario Bros. 3 is owned over 300 times (or almost 30% of the collectors here)
Hope that's of any help.

No, it's been discussed and people fear it would be used as a measure of rarity. As such, we only show ownership on the individual pages.

Anyone attempting to use this as a way to guess rarity of a game would be a moron. All the information you would get out of it is the popularity of games within the RFG community. Which is cool info, but not rarity.
People attempting to use such a feature as a rarity guide will end up picking up copies of Madden from years past or some other common game that is not popular with the RFG community.
I think the data would be completely uninteresting at the low end of this, there are going to be plenty of uncommon, but not rare 1-offs that no one else in the DB has. However, the high end of this could be fun, especially if you use the data for random weekly updates. "20 most owned games in the DB" "Top 5 most owned systems" "The most owned game for each major Nintendo platform"

I don't think we need to call people morons, do we? Just seems pretty unnecessary to me..

It should also be mentioned that such SQL queries are unbelievably intensive. They'd make baby Jesus cry.
Also, Chainclaw's right. You only would be getting a measure of local popularity. RF Generation will never, ever be able to mirror true rarity.

Rarity is overrated. The only way you'd be able to tell how rare a game really is, is by knowing how many copies of a game were sold and how many CIB ones are still left today.
Obviously, there's no way to know that for sure.
Even for games that are really, really rare you'll never be able to figure out just how rare. I remember that Neo Geo AES site where they said "only 5 copies are known to exist." Well, sure, that's not a lot but how can you know how many copies are still owned by collectors who never sold them or copies that are simply gathering dust in a box somewhere?

On top of that rarity is also partially dictated by supply and demand as well. If one part of the country, perhaps because of factors like population density etc. have more copies of a game available than others, what may sit by the dozen in a pawn shop in one place, sits behind glass with a large price tag in another.

I just thought it would be cool to see what game or games are in most peoples' collection.
Obviously Mario's, Zelda's would probably be at the top of that list.

I would have to assume that one of the most owned video games is SMB / DH.
