As of noon on Tuesday February 13th, 2007 Purdue University shut down for a snow recess. The original recess was supposed to be only 24 hours, meaning that classes were set to resume at noon Wednesday. However, under pressure from the county, Purdue extended the recess until 6:00AM Thursday.
I was extremely surprised to hear Purdue had called off. This is not the worst weather we have seen this year, at least for someone who walks to campus. I was honestly not expecting anything to happen. Perhaps they had learned their lesson after the last bad weather spell. (Either that, or a wind chill of -30F is not enough of a reason to cancel classes.)
The streets around campus were very passable, but everywhere there should have been two lanes, there was only one. The sidewalks weren't clean, but a lot of the snow had been pushed aside. This was campus however, the center of the county. The roads out farther from the city (term used loosely) were apparently still very bad. I didn't check. I did, however, drive to the Co-Rec at about 7:30 PM without any trouble whatsoever.
I decided to take advantage of the snow, bright sun, and the day off and went out with my camera. I took 452 pictures, requiring one trip back to the apartment to clear off the memory card. (It maxed out at 265 pictures.)
