Images from a hike I went on (with some friends) to Clifton Gorge State Park in Ohio.
Awesome pictures as always, Hydrobond! Smiley

I love the effect on the Rapids/waterfall pictures.

But what a crazy idea to dump a bike in a forest, these people should be ashamed of themselves!  nono

Thanks Sirgin.

I have no idea how that bike ended up down there.  That section of the gorge is at least 80 feet deep with no reasonable way to get down.  Additionally, the bike was obviously placed there instead of dropped, so someone had to lower it down there slowly and be down there to place it upright.  The park is technically a nature preserve, so you aren't allowed to venture off the path (Not that it stopped the Black Perl) so I don't like the fact that it is there, but I do find is quite interesting because of the thought required to get the bike down there in one piece.

I decided to take some pictures of the pond today, so here are a couple of them.

I wasn't home during schooldays last year because I was at a dorm; as a result I neglected the pond for a whole year and it turned into a mudpool. Tongue

This year I'll be staying home so I'll be able to take much better care of the pond. I did a huge clean-up about a month ago. The eco-system has recovered quite well already, and the water is clear again! Cheesy

There are only goldfish and other cheap fish in the pond at the moment, but I'm planning on buying a few (2-3) tiny koi when it's warm enough in spring. The cheapest koi I can find are €8.50 each, so that's still doable. Smiley

Some of the fish - the net is over the pond to prevent leaves falling into it

Some more fish

The biological filter

The filter opened with the UV-C lamp hanging at it's side

Ditto

The pond is raised from the ground which makes it much easier to look at the fish - it's held back by those railway logs

The fish come to my hand but don't dare to touch my finger yet - gotta train them a bit Tongue

Nice pond
Thanks you. Smiley

We (as in: my mom and I) didn't place it though. It was already there when we bought the house so we kind of rolled into it. Tongue

Is it actually self sufficient, or do you have to feed the fish?

It used to be self sufficient before I did cleaned the whole pond but I'm not sure if there is already enough "natural" food in the pond for them to survive.

To enhance growth and vivid colors it's best to feed them anyway; I've been doing so for the past month and they never seem to get enough Tongue

Looks like some cool areas. I need to get up to that part of the country one of these days, it's one of the few parts I have not seen.

I wish I lived in such a cool area...

I can't wait until I can drive. I'll drive to Wisconsin on 3 day weekends and just explore the woods. *Sigh*
I would walk, but that is a tad bit far...

Really nice pics dave.  Some of the pictures from the park are really beautiful.  I also noticed the island jew(elry) store you mentioned.  Looks like you picked some pretty cool places to visit.

Sometime this week, I'll get some of my pics from Clifton Gorge on here.  I'll try to find some different from the ones hydrobond posted.

DUDE! You live in Chicago. Chicago is far and beyond the coolest city I've ever visited.

Chicago is amazing and all, but it is reserved for normal weekends. Wink

I dunno... I guess I like nature a bit more than a large city, even if that city is cool as all hell. (oxymoron!)

But yes! When I can drive, I will most defiantly go to the city on some weekends too.
