Hhmm... I wasn't under the impression that most of those are rare.. Just more frequently sought after. I'd run into those quite a bit at a chain of stores called The Exchange in Pittsburgh, PA. They'd be selling for $10-20 each. Mind you the last time I was in those stores was back in 2004.

RE: logical123's first post:

I have a few of those models sitting in boxes in the states. Also have quite a few different colors of US released Pockets and Colors. I was picking them up for around $5 each at the above mentioned stores Smiley

That's pretty insane, the current offer is almost $2000 Shocked

I understand that some people get fanatic in their hobby, but paying that much for 15 games isn't justifiable in my opinion.

Link's dead now to me, but I'm pretty sure it had a Starfox Super Weekend cart in there when I looked at it before...  that's why the price is so bumped up.  Those things are frickin' rare-- only about 2000 were made, I think.

Wait, HOLY--!

Not just the Starfox Super Weekend Cart, but also the DKC Competition Cartridge!  In the same auction!

THAT is why the price is bumped.  Those are the rarest of SNES carts there.

Maybe so, but they're essentially the same cartridges with a different logo slapped onto them.

Having something that's "rare" may be fun, but I just think that's over the top. People can get so crazed about limited/rare games (or other rare things, in general), it's a bit stupid in my opinion. The price goes up because people drool over those things all the time...if people keep saying "OMG that's so RARE!!!! I gotta have it!!!", they'll start to believe it's something special, when it's not. Collection/buying just because something's rare is pretty lame. (in my opinion) It's the "I bought it because it's rare"-situation instead of "I bought it because I like it".

I wouldn't buy/want games that are so "rare" unless I have everything else already. You and me both know that's almost impossible (having all "common" games)

The person who's winning this has all the right in the world to pay that much for it, though. But chances are slim this is actually a millionaire looking for a way to loose a couple of grands...instead this is probably a normal person with a normal salary spending $2000 on a bunch of plastic which is in my opinion, a waste.

Not sure if you realize it, but you are sort of backhanding a number of people on this site.

Including myself...  Cry

Rarities are usually a centerpiece of a collection. That's what makes it collecting. I also collect coins, and when you buy your first 'rarity', the feeling is exhilarating. Perhaps you are too new to the hobby, but ask anyone who owns a full 32X or 7800 collection if they actually like all of those games. The answer will probably be a flat out 'No'.

But, you can say that you have acquired a complete collection, and the you can play the games you do like!  Cheesy

It's kind of hard to explain it to someone who doesn't get it...  Undecided

Oh well, we are all entitled to our own opinions.  Wink Smiley

That is not my intent.

I'm not trying to make fun of anyone on this site or anyone at all, for that matter. Nor am I trying to condemn any sort of hobbies of any sort.

Maybe I didn't stretch the fact enough it's only my opinion, not a fact.

If you want to, I can remove my post if you feel it would upset certain people. Just let me know.

I understand what Sirgin is saying. I also understand what Logical is saying. I used to collect anything I could get my hands on. When I started selling my collection though, I did realize exactly how much I wasted on rarities. I didn't make much of a profit on them either.

It's all fine when you have the money and time to collect. If you end up in a situation where you just can't do it anymore though... It all boils down to priorities really. For some it's certain aspects of a collection. For others it's a bigger bank account or a better living for the family. I used to treasure those "pieces of plastic" but now that's all most of them are to me. On that same note, when my in-laws say stuff like that about my Tales collection I get pretty pissed...lmfao
