Post your favorite underrated games here! And if you want too, post the reason why!

For me they would have to be Splatterhouse, Earthbound, and River City Ransom.

Splatterhouse- A pure and simple beat 'em up made by Namco. Where the protagonist is Rick who is trying to save his girlfriend Jennifer from the West Mansion. The fighting system in this game is superb and the weapon choices are excellent as well. It even spawned two sequels on the Genesis. Though I never got far in this game because I only played it a few years back for limited time, I would highly recomend it.

Earthbound- A quirky RPG on the SNES, it takes place in the year 199X. You play as Ness, who is called to save the world from an alien overlord called Giygas. Instead of what was common in other RPGs such as swords and dragons and such, it uses baseball bats and possessed circus tents. Even if you aren't a big fan of RPGs, you will love this game for the story and characters.

River City Ransom- Another beat 'em up by American Technos, you are Alex who is trying to save his best friend, Ryan's girlfriend from Slick who is holding her ransom (Thus the name). In to player, the second player will play as Ryan. The controls are easy to use and the fighting is simple, but fun. It also uses RPG elements such as using books to learn new fighting skills and going to a pharmacy to get power ups. The game has many things that you will definetly remember such as many of the thugs final words like "BARF!". This game definetly has a lot of replay value and has even had a remake River City Ransom EX for the Game Boy Advance.

One of mine would be Earth Defense Force 2017 on the Xbox 360. It got middling to poor reviews, and a lot of people don't care for it, but damn is it fun. For the uninitiated, it is a game where you take control of a generic, nameless soldier in Japan, and fight against an invading alien army of gigantic ants, spiders, robots, and dinosaurs. The plot is ridiculous, and the voice acting is incredibly hammy, but it is great mindless fun. Bonus points for having co-op as well.

The Myth series. Amazing RTS gaming...whenever you tell someone about it they think you're talking about MYST which really pisses me off.

Splatterhouse is great, I've played and completed the trilogy.
If you ever get another chance Feechy you should see how far you can get, it is an awesome game from start to finish.

I know, though this is off topic, does anybody have a copy of Splatterhouse for trade? Now back to the underdogs.

I'm not very good at it but Shatterhand for NES is an awesome platformer. Too bad I can't get very far before giving up.

The Guardian Legend for NES. Did you know that this game actually gets mediocre reviews?

Battletoads and Battletoads & Double Dragon (NES) -- Not as hard as everyone seems to think and great games to boot.

Time Lord (NES) -- This was one of the handful of games I had when I first got my NES back in the day and I played it loads. Nice little game.

That ive got to agree with. Double Dragon is not that hard. Granted, ive not gotten that far in the game but it has the perfect amount of challenge to it and is just damn fun.

I'm not familiar with sales figures of yester year or what the buzz games were, but from what people generally haven't discussed much recently I'd say:
Pipe Dreams (NES/PC, the 3D adapted PSX version is okay)
Black Throne (32X/PC, not SNES)
Android Assault (SCD)
Stellar 7 (3DO/PC)
Total Annihilation (PC)
Diablo with unofficial Hellfire expansion (PC)
Battle Realms (PC)
Cloud Master (SMS)
Vertical Force (VB)
Shinobi 1 & 2 (GG)
Puzznic (NES, but TG-16 is better)

I've owned this game for along time and just realized how much of an underdog it is. I's Journey to Silius for the NES. Made by Sunsoft and originally meant to be a Terminator game, it plays a lot like Contra. Though many criticise it as a bad Contra rip-off it offers challenge to both new and experienced players. The controls are also near perfect and responsive as well. And just to go the extra mile, this game has one of the best sound tracks on the NES. (Well...Maybe 2nd to Megaman of course)

America (PC) it was a total Age of Empires ripoff but I loved the American frontier setting.  It had some nice twists on the traditional AoE gameplay.  For example, like most games, units could not pass through forests, unless you were playing the Native Americans, who were able to pass through any forest, and while they were doing so the became partially concealed.

Wild Arms 1 & 2 (PS1) Western theme again.  I just like it I guess.  These two were pretty solid RPGs that were overshadowed by the Final Fantasys.

Rocket Knight Adventures on the Genesis.  AFAIK, it was almost completely ignored by the public.  That depresses me, because I think it's one of the best games on the system... colorful graphics, amazing music, and top-notch platform gameplay makes it one of the system's overlooked masterpieces.

Battletoads & Double Dragon was easy, but the original Battletoads was hard, no doubt about it Shocked
I loved it all the same and both get my vote.

Rocket Knight Adventures
and the original Wild Arms also get my vote.
I instantly loved Wild Arms after seeing its into.

My God... Earthbound. Yes yes, Earthbound.

Uniracers is also an amazing game that is rarely talked about. If only there was a WiiWare/PSN/Live version of the game.
