The movie is almost 3 hours and apparently there was like 40 mins cut from it.

Also i haven't read the graphic novel but apparently that is incredibly dense and amazing reading.

I had never even heard of The Watchmen until I saw a movie trailer... and the trailer did nothing to really make me want to see the movie Sad

I'm, sure I'll watch it when I'm bored one day and it comes on TV.

Its funny because there were 2 reviews in the paper about this.
One said that the movie in no way lived up to the original comics. And apparently the director knew it never would and said so.
And the other went on about how people are up in arms in both camps.
The hardcore comics guys who said it was a slandering and watering down of the original concept with its horrid music(the songs were good but the song choices just didn't really seem to fit into a movie like that well they do but in a way that made me snicker.) and the punching of holes in walls and standard superhero fight scenes.(paraphrased)
And "the internet fanboys" who just loved the movie because of the visuals.

IMO the movie was lacking in the music department. Had stunning visuals. A hot naked chick. awesome story.
I want to pick up the graphic novel still and i think this is one of the cases where since i did not read it first i wasn't let down by anything and instead will be thrilled with a slightly different experience.

Also the movies ending is apparently different and shittier than the books.

Not worth it, in my experience.

I read the book a while back and enjoyed it. I haven't heard or read a good review of this film yet. Everything I've seen says it falls short and is disappointing but that often means I'll like it! I'll go in open-minded and hope I enjoy it.

It was surprisingly good. Despite a few cuts and some changes, it was fairly true to the comic, which impressed me.

The director's cut will expand on that and restore some of the more important cut stuff. One of my friends who disliked the comic actually felt it was the most faithful adaption ever.

Honestly - having read the original Hayter script with Nite Owl killing the villian and it taking place during the Bush administration, no fan should open their mouth for ill word against Snyder. No matter what you think of his ability, the man championed to keep it as faithful as possible sans squid.

I thought it sucked. It was fun but it's a bad movie-- kind of like how 300 was fun but a bad movie.  There were a bunch of parts in the movie that were either poorly done or completely corny (a perfect example is Dr. Manhatten's revelation which involves a comparison of turning oxygen into gold with something that is a very common occurrence). Also the ending to Watchmen was poorly executed (the way the revelation was revealed while they were sort of fighting sort of not fighting was extremely stupid). It could have been done much much better. On the plus side Rorschack was unbelievably awesome and any scene with him was pretty damn amazing.

I never read the graphic novel, but as a stand alone movie it could have been much better. The story was good but the execution was not. One more thing... I'm tired of this random slowdown in fight scenes. Give it a break.

I thought it was really good. I vaguely remember reading some of it 20 some years ago but for the most part it was all new to me. I'm reading the book right now. I'm only about a third of the way through but so far the movie is a pretty faithful adaptation. A lot of the dialogue is word for word from the book.

As for the music, a lot of lyrics are quoted in the book so far I've come across quotes from Elvis Costello's "the Comedians" which I don't recall hearing in the movie and Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" which is covered by My Chemical Romance in the closing credits. I liked hearing some Leonard Cohen too.

I haven't finished the book yet so I can't say if the changes to the ending will piss me off or not.

I really want to read the book and then give the movie another viewing. Most people who read the book absolutely loved the movie because it was an extremely faithful adaptation. It'll probably help me understand a lot of the things that seemed extremely corny and unnecessary.

Nothing in that story is unnecessary. Just because you feel it isn't, doesn't mean it is, though the fact that you apperently didn't understand might have done with your level of enjoyment. You may not understand why it's neccesary, but it is.

Sigh... It wasn't that hard to see why he felt it was rare. Infact, he even explained it. The OCCURANCE of life is common, but the occurance that it is that EXACT person is not. Out of all humans in the world, all the sperm fighting for that egg, it was that ONE in a million billion trillion chance that you are who you are. Attention to detail.
