I think I've decided to never buy a new system

Unless it is a handheld because for some reason I find them so much more accessible than consoles. Anyway, the reason is back in the day I used to play games over and over and over, now I hardly play a game more than once and then move on quickly to pl!y the next game I want to.
The thing is, a lot of my favorite games of all time I've only played once such as Skies of Arcadia, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Tales of Symphonia etc. Also, I have a bunch of games that I have yet to play for an extended period of time such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Quest 8, Suikoden 3, etc. And of course, I don't have every game that I know I would absolutely love such as God of War 2 and Persona 3. Not to mention the plethora of SNES, NES, SMS etc games I have yet to play.
So... what I'm saying is I'm probably not going to buy a new system. What do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea? Opinions at all would be awesome.

It is the road I took after Sega left the console scene.
I buy games for my Mac, but even with this, I have game I just haven't played yet that I own.

It may work for you but personally I find handheld gaming less accessible than consoles, I think it's because of my big hands hurting after playing for an hour. Also I find that I can buy current gen stuff cheaper than retro in many cases thanks to sales.
Plus I just love getting something new and shiny

I play more handhelds than anything else these days, too. Granted, a lot of the time that means playing NES or TG-16 games on my PSP. I just love the convenience. It's so much easier to pick up and play for 20 minutes that it is to set up a game on the TV.

Those three alone give you 1500+ games. Get a Game Gear with a Master Converter to play SMS on it and you've expanded your handheld gaming as well.
These new systems will be around for a long time yet. Hell you can still buy last gen systems new. No need to jump in and fork over $250-$400+ in the initial purchase until your ready to enjoy every penny of it. When you're ready you'll know it, be it next week or next year or longer.

I always say this to myself, but I eventually cave in. The only system that I've bought right when it came out is the Wii, and I think I just fell into the hype.
No matter how much I tell myself that I'm not going to buy a new system eventually a game comes out taht I can't pass out. So far I haven't had any real reason to buy a PS3, but I know I'll break eventually.

I think everyone who's listed their game collection in the database has plenty of games they either havent beat or sadly, havent played at all. It was so easy back in the day to play a game over and over untill you'd beat it in so many ways you could almost write a walkthru with just your own experience with the game. These days, it feels like there's so many great games being released. What with 6 systems currently seeing decent releases, it's only more difficult. Then there's the whole PC scene which only makes it that much more difficult to keep up. Add the time restraints caused by things like work, family, sleep, school, and eventualy your gaming time is reduced to perhaps 40 hours a week if your realy realy lucky. If your not lucky, or insane, you maybe get 15-25 hours a week to play games. With that, you've realy got to ask. Why am I buying all these new systems at full price when I dont have the time to fully enjoy the games on them? Even if you could afford to support all the systems and handhelds, would you ever have the time?
In a round about way, what I'm trying to say is that I see nothing wrong with your idea. We all go thru it to some degree at one point or another. Thing is, something will eventualy come out on one of the new home console systems that will grab your attention so hard you'll feel like you need to look for the truck that just ran over you. You'll want it, then you'll get a new system. Till then, enjoy all that handheld gaming has to offer. It may lack the graphic power houses of the home set up but it still works and it's still great. Handhelds are often overlooked but damned if they aint convient.

From the looks of it you don't need another system. Just juice up the emulators and turn your PC into a power user.
Otherwise about new systems I was thinking about causual netplay like Kalleria but for the consumer users ( impulsive buyers ) like maybe
Maybe a NDS, PSP for racing games to go up against people.
PC - to play the unofficial GTA:SA online.
other then that the newer futuristic is soooooo boring, I can't believe all this nonsense they keep throwing I mean what do they expect me to do run screaming for 360 Sonic while throwing my sweaty man-bra at Sqauresofts FF7 rerelease??? I mean I am too big for this and too safisticated for this nonsense anymore.
I was also thinking about the Celluar phone games. While I do not officially have my own phone I personally know for a fact Cell phones affects people.
I am on the train and everybody has one and I hear a bright noise ( which is high frequency sounds ) like the one a TV set makes like if it is going to explode. I hate those things so much, I wish we went back to the original Celluar phones. I miss them the way they were so cute and reasonably sized.
Todays phones is so ugly and wierd like the iphone for example or the one that has mirror for a screen. Heck I even miss the second generation phones that was flip top like my GBA SP. What is even sadder is how all those radio guys feel useless when you can tap a line to make free phone calls. I mean ten dollars a month to 90 dollars a year is amazing
ON the otherhand I barely use the phone at all.

At the moment I too feel absolutely no need to buy a next-gen console. I don't have a 360, PS3 or Wii and am glad that I don't.
Two things make me think this way:
1. A new console costs a lot of money and the games sure ain't cheap either. (€70 for Uncharted 2 weeks ago and that game has been out like 10 months!) On the other hand you can pick up older consoles/games for practically no money at all at yard sales or eBay. So I'll just wait until PS4 and Xbox 720 are out, so I can buy all those "old" PS3/360 games cheap
2. Those new consoles (especially PS3 and 360) seem to resemble PC's more and more and I for one dislike PC's for gaming. (except maybe for RTS games) I hate the fact that it's suddenly completely normal (or even necessary) to do firmware updates for your console every five damn minutes. Also console-games now can be updated after purchase, so now games can come on the market which aren't ready at all!
All that online-nonsense is one day going to fuck up console gaming just like it did with PC gaming. I'm sure it won't take long till some wizzkid starts making virusses and stuff for consoles and before we know it we have to buy antivirusses for our consoles too.
The thing I liked so much about consoles is that they're no-nonsense gaming machines. No problems, no updates, no nothing....just plug in & play. But if the current trend will continue that will surely become a thing of the past. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but that's how I see console-gaming evolving with the current huge focus on online gaming.

I agree with you sirgin 100%! I don't want to spend an extra $99.99 on Norton Antivirus for my PS4. That would be ridiculous!

Your not alone Sirgin, I voiced something similar about how much new systems have changed against their whole purpose. Essentially they are just PPCs these days targeted at gaming. The Dreamcast for me was the perfect blend, of allowing me to game online or surf the web while it still was a dedicated gaming system. Even the DC was just about crossing the line mind you.
Do you know how much my Master System II cost back in its day? $99!
These days the same companies behind computer graphics are also behind the systems graphics even. It is intentional too, as Sony has stated both with the PS2 & PS3 it is a PC replacement.
