It isn't super rare.
You have a .0001 cance of finding it "in the wild" but chances are somewhat good you will be able to find it at a used game shop.
Prices will most likely reflect going rates on eBay.

EDIT
Oh yeah enjoy your trip Smiley

You'll probably be able to find it in Vancouver at a few different shops. Its gonna range from $200-$300+ for a loose one in a retail store, add a couple hundred to both ends of that if you want CIB. Good luck and enjoy the roller coasters!

If you stop in Seattle, they have great selection of used game stores. You can get and idea from this video:

Are you stopping in Portland? I can list some stores in that area too if you like.

Hey guys, thank you for the great answers. We will be driving past Portland when we leave Seatle to go to San Francisco. It's good to hear that there are probably some available in a retail environment. Hopefully I can get a good deal in one of the stores. 300 bucks is probably a bit to high for me, I'm aiming for a price between 160 and 200 usd.

So I got this item as part of a contest. If your store sold more copies of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon then the other stores in your region then they sent you a Fire Emblem Crystal. The crystal has a sword etched into it and changes color. Inside the bottom of the base are lights that rotate to change the color. I have not seen any of these pop up and have been trying to figure out the value of my collection for insurance reasons. I have the paper that was sent along with the item about winning and the box is really smooth and silky. Anyone have an idea on this?

Things like that completely depend on the market of the collectors.
Depending on who sees it and who wants it it might for for 500$s or 30$s.

Given that i specifically look for Mortal Kombat stuff i have seen it happen with that. Some promotional item will sell for 5$s one week with one bid and then the next one that shows up a few people see it who missed the last one and go into a bidding frenzy and the thing ends up going for 80$s with 20 bids

So what you are telling me is that I should hype the heck out of it and post it every where? Smiley

Okay, yeah that makes sense. Thanks for the input as always.

GameSniped, if it's still around, tends to help with those types of things. Wink

i have a lit crystal exactly like that from a mall kiosk that sold local artist's work, i think i might have paid $25 or $30 for it but it was a long time ago. seeing as your's is so unique and something collectors would be interested in, i'm sure it would go for much more than that. but like izret said, it entirely depends on who's buying, you have to get lucky with the right seller...which makes it hard to put an insurance value on it.

A quick update directly form the US (We are still on our trip). I found a copy of earthbound after visiting 6 shops. I think I got a decent retail price for it being 173 usd cart only wich was within my budget. Also picked up some atari games in a thrift store: frogger, centipede and qbert boxed and loose pacman and dk carts. Didnt have a lot of atari (i wasnt born yet when those came out) so I was pretty thrilled finding a few staples. Tnx a lot for the tips you guys gave me (The seatle store video was very helpfull, pink gorilla is amazing). Ill put up a photo of the final scores later in the scores thread when we completed our trip.

Congrats on finding a copy of Earthbound!

I would if the shipping from Canada wasn't what it is. I have the books but that box would be the coup de grace.
