I've seen petrol anywhere between 87.9ppl and 101.9ppl this week.
Diesel has been 98.9ppl to 101.9ppl where I've noticed the prices for it.

Diesel is more expensive than petrol over there now?
Wow, that's just crazy.

What do you mean "now"? Diesel overtook petrol about ten years ago. People started realising how much more efficient diesel engines are, so diesel became more popular. The government then decided to put taxes up on diesel to cash in on it because they are bastards.

Oh, but that makes no sense at all.
Diesel is still cheaper than Petrol here, although the difference is less big than it used to be 4-5 years ago.

XD
Diesel is exuberantly more expensive here. I remember when gas was at a high of around $4.299, there were a couple places selling it for $5.499. I've heard of it topping $6 in a couple places before too... Now, gas is at $1.949 - $2.049, and diesel is $2.49 - $2.99 round here.

Summer 2008 had a huge increase in prices. Diesel was up to £1.359, which at the time was about $2.70, or about $10 a US gallon.

Bizarre.
I guess Belgium is "special" then. Diesel has been cheaper than gas here for as long as I can remember. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
Also, if Diesel is more expensive than gas, there is no longer a point in buying a Diesel car. People buy (more expensive) Diesel cars here because they can save at the pump. Diesel makes a car less exciting (although I guess that's no longer the case, with the RS8...) and it's worse than gas for nature. So making it more expensive than gas is just crazy.

Diesel has superior fuel economy, so for the most part it's higher cost is offset by it's efficiency. But really, cars are not the driving force behind Diesel. Trucks, farm equipment, heavy equipment, buses, military vehicles and ships use Diesel. So realistically, the infrastructure and the retail sector relies on it more than pickup trucks and the few passenger cars that use it.

I agree with you but those "few" passenger cars that run on Diesel as you call it are 30-40% of all cars in Belgium. Maybe we're Diesel-crazy, I don't know. My dad's car runs on Diesel.

I'm sure it is. Over here though, I'd say 10% or less.

I see. That's a big difference. It probably explains the higher cost of Diesel over there.

It's probably one of the major reasons why retail prices have gone up. Especially food and things like that.
