But you forget the fact that if people are spending more on gas, they have to spend less on other stuff, so other industries will be hurt. So yeah, it helps the owner of the gas station in that he gets more revenue, but it doesn't help the overall economy any. And I don't think gas stations are hurting any. Sure they don't make anything on gas, but they sell gas just to get you into the store so you buy $50 worth of snacks, cigarettes and lotto tickets.

It would also be interesting to know the average salary overseas compared to ours.

$2.73 @ WaWa

Europeans generally have more effecient methods of transportation than most Americans have.  Many of the cars in America are big and meant to have a ton of room.  The rest of the world usually have more effecient 4 cylinder engines, and lighter cars that help add to better fuel economy.  Due to different safety standards, American vehicles have to be stronger and beefier (and thus heavier) to reduce deaths and injuries when they get hit by a 2+ ton SUV.

If there wouldn't be 2+ ton SUV's everywhere in the US there wouldn't be a reason for other cars to be "stronger and beefier" like you just said. Wink

$2.99 today. Down $1 in two weeks. It still needs to be cheaper though.
