...is now a bad time to mention that this thread needs to be split off into a Part 7, since we're nearing the point where it's going to affect performance? We have a few other threads we need to split as well.

Leave it to the powers-that-be to ruin the fun for the rest of us.

Wrapped up day 2 of week 3 back at work!

Legitimately surprised i was back at work today. Might get another 2 days out of the place we are at now. I am expecting lay off again after that.
Of course i was expecting a layoff again monday after finishing the last apartment at a different place.

I just need to find a new job... Or steal customers from the guy i work for... Or play the lotto so i can win the lotto... Or have some unknown rich relative die and leave me their fortune...

Enough to pay off the phone bill for a month, right?

With ~2.5 weeks i should make enough to pay
1 past due, 1 current, 1 future phone.
1 current, 2 future car insurance

I'm not 100% sure though. I also had an outstanding debt and had to replace my water pump and get some other minor(though critical) BS car repairs.
Plus side i was originally told it might be a head gasket/cracked block. So at least it was an "affordable" amount of damage.

Parents house got broken into.
A fair number of things were taken but it definitely could have been worse.

Some of what was taken vs what was left behind was astonishing/lucky.

Needless to say, I can relate.

Mom & dad are okay I take it?

Yea they were gone for the holiday and came back early when i got a hold of them.
When i take care of their place if i'm not staying i don't usually scope out the whole house. I would jokingly say "Eh TV is still here everything is alright"

Had trashbags not been left in the hallway by the theif/theives i probably wouldn't have even known the break in happened until later. Unless they decided to come back and take more.

Mostly family heirloom jewelry and some tech was taken. Most concerning is stolen hunting related guns. They were locked up but they smashed through the locks.
Not the typical type of weapons used in a robbery but there is no saying they couldn't end up being used to harm someone.

It seemed more of like a smash and grab than an empty everything we can. TVs/DVD players were all completely left alone for example but a laptop was taken.
Every cabinet/drawer was dumped/rifled through. Unfortunately for whoever broke in and lucky for my parents they don't own much expensive easily stolen stuff. In fact one of the jewelry boxes that was taken for prints was from the office/grand kids bedroom. The box only contained various shaped/sized magnets the kids play with.

On the whole my parents got really lucky that damages were pretty minor and there was a relatively small loss of valuables.

Theft has been a huge problem in my area over the past couple months. It's weird because my area has never been like this before. Are you seeing the same in your area?

My sympathies, Mr. Anthony.  I too can relate very well, as can my own parents.  I'm glad no one was harmed and damages were minor.

Their neighborhood it is a relatively new occurrence. There was a rash of break-ins several years ago along the same lines. Turned out to be a group pizza delivery "boys". I had gone to (a catholic) high school with their "ring leader".

My neighborhood was bad when we moved in and only gotten worse. Living right next to a "bad" bar doesn't help much but being on Main St near a major intersection has probably helped stymie break-ins that have happened a bit further down the block.

My Corsair SPEC-03 case arrived today.
I've still got to decide what to put in it though.
