It's Remembrance Sunday today. 90 years since the end of the First World War! Shocked

I know the equivalent day in America is on another day, but here we have a silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (Or whichever sunday is closest). So there was a silence at 11am this morning, and there will probably be another one on Tuesday.

In Dutch it's called "wapenstilstand" which would literally translate to "weapons stand still". Smiley

There's still people dying every now and then here in Belgium from bombs that were dropped in Ypres in WWI but didn't go off. Sad Mostly farmers who activate them by accident.

And they get pissed when its not on a Friday or a Monday and they don't get a three day weekend.  Of course, that's if you get the day off in the first place...

Remembrance Day here is Nov. 11th. Our ceremonies are identical to those in the UK and it encompasses honouring veterans from all conflicts and wars. I can't imagine anyone not knowing about it, up here it's probably the one holiday every year that has national participation and is recognized by every culture, ethnic group and religion.

What am I thinking of in the USA that was some other time in the year? Huh I'm sure it was about war. Probably Veteran's Day but I was sure that was another time.
