Weird. Just this afternoon I found a two pence coin and picked it up. It was in my own home, but I found it nontheless. It blended in well with our brown carpet. I put it in the money pot we keep.

I suppose out on the street, 50p is the lowest I would pick up.

Not worth my time. Think of all the pennies in landfills. If you could gather them all up I bet you'd be rich.

the US currently has a ban on the export of coins.  At the current rate, pennies aren't even worth the copper they're minted from, so melting them down could be a marginally profitable venture.  For the first time in a while, I don't even mind getting Canadian coins mixed in with my regular change.

Copper is at approx 3$s a pound right now., it was over 3 for a little while.(we keep the scrap metal from jobs copper, brass, etc to sell.)

It costs the mint 1.5 cents to make a penny.

I pick it up more often than not. Working at a convenience store i came across alot of loose change and bills :-)

Wow. I worked at a Scrap yard 10 years or so ago and copper then was about 65 cents a pound or so. There was always a price flucuation month to month but not much more than 20 cents either way. Hell even then people would steal wire and tubing and bring it in.  Tongue

Yeah the price is so high last couple of years that people are just dying to get their hands on some.

Ohm my god, what a bunch of idiots.  I bet they thought their idea had real potential.  You just gotta wonder watt they were thinking. I mean, it must have been quite a shock to them when they realized it was a live wire.   Can they be charged with this crime postmortem?

(I love current event puns.)

Ok, that's enough.

It seems around here, at least once a week someone is caught stealing scrap.  Every once in a while we get someone who cuts into live wires.  I go by a scrap yard on my way to school and nearly every day there is a police car in the parking lot, I assume he's looking for stolen stuff that's been sold.

I always pick up change when I see it.  I usually pick up aluminum cans in parking lots too.  The damn things are worth more than pennies laugh
