McFarland, the publisher of Classic Home Video Games 1972-1984, has posted certain pages of the book on their website. If you want to view the pages, click on the link below, then click on Atari 2600, ColecoVision or Intellivision.

I like the informative write-ups for each individual game.
Good work, friend.

maybe sounds cynical but whats the point of the entries in the book with no pictures? You could say anything looked like anything you wanted how do i knew what I'm looking for when trawling through boxes of crap trying to find the good ones

Have you ever flipped through a book of movie reviews? You'll notice that there are no "screen shots" for the hundreds or thousands of movies that are reviewed, yet the writers still manage to describe the movies for their presumably intelligent readers.

Gosh, I wish I would have thought of that! The book would've been much easier to write.

I can understand how hard it could be to write overviews of each game and also the space needed for screenshots, but I can also see where Alabama-Shrimp is coming from.
How do you say for example, write a definitive overview for
Demon Attack
and differentiate it from
Phoenix
without the use of screenshots? A challenge to be sure.

A challenge indeed. Plus, there's the matter of historical information related to some of the more noteworthy games such as Pitfall! and K.C. Munchkin! I tried to include the most important information in each and every entry.

Some have emailed me requesting additional sample pages, so McFarland has posted a few more, including Atari 5200 and Odyssey2 entries. For easy access, click on the following link:

It was definitely a lot of work, but well worth it. Most of it was fun to write, and the research (playing zillions of games, pouring over countless instruction manuals) was a blast.
