Do you need the metal plates that come with the 32X? What happens if you don't use them?

If I am not mistaken, the metal plates are only spacers between the add-on and the console. You shouldn't have any problem without them.

With that said, I would wait for definitive confirmation that this is the case.

The metal plates are just to hold the flaps open on the Genesis.

The spacer is a big plastic pass-through for the Genesis 2.

You DO NOT need them.  They hold open the flaps.

Actually I wouldn't recommend them as they let more dust in and are another piece to corrode.  Now I really wish I had one of those plastic spacers.  The unit doesn't quite sit right without it.

Ditto, I don't think you absolutely need it.

Eh actually iirc the plates are to protect the 32X from the RF shielding in the Genesis...or something like that...lol  Meh that doesn't sound right lmao...  Obviously they serve some purpose though, why would Sega spend money making and including them if they did nothing!? lol

BINGO! The are not just spacers. You don't need them but it doesn't hurt to have them. I might have an extra set you can have.
