Special thanks to Shadow Kisuragi for letting me know about the following promotion:
Frito-Lay is offering "free"
Skylanders Sidekick figures via a mail-in card in every "Flavor Mix" 20-mini-bag variety pack. Actually, you have to make out a check or money order for $2 to cover shipping.
There are four different figures, basically chibified versions of Trigger Happy, Stealth Elf, Terrafin, and Gill Grunt.

The card states that you have to "rank your choice below in order of preference" from 1 to 4, because "Frito-Lay cannot guarantee that you will get your (first) choice."
But the really weird thing is that you have to
mail the card out... along with the UPC code clipped off the bag... and a check or money order... in an envelope with a first-class postage stamp affixed... and then wait for two months or more for the stuff to arrive... like you're stuck in the late 20th century and the modern internet is still a far-off dream.
Like this article from Kotaku states, "Frito-Lay's Handling the
Skylanders Freebie Like it's 1980 or Something."

GameInformer.com isn't exactly optimistic about the whole deal, either:
http://www.gameinformer.c...f-could-crush-dreams.aspxBut, for better or worse, this is presently the only way to obtain the figures. And even if one doesn't get the figure(s) he prefers, the internet makes for a pretty good trading post if you know where to go. And you may just have to go this way, since there is a limit of 4 figures per household.
BTW Safeway has the Flavor Mix packs on sale for $5.00 each (regularly $7.29)... but only until midnight in the Pacific and Mountain time zones.
