I have to admit that I cheaped out on a great buy on eBay.  I was looking for the PC Engine CD-Rom (Japanese release) to accompany my PC Engine.  The unit offered was CIB as I always go for, plus included 5 Hue cards and 10 CDs .  Though not an entirely obscure unit, it does carry a heavy price for CIB during auctions.  One of my preferred sellers put one up for $100 + shipping from Japan (was cheap - $45 EMS).  I tried to cheap out and offered him $70, knowing full well that this can auction for more than $250 + shipping for a CIB/working system and the games.  Of course, I beat myself silly only 10 minutes later when it was gone.  Another lesson from life for me

The only time I've ever not bought something that I later felt like I should have was a loose copy of Hammerin' Harry for 7,50 euro at a flea market.  I didn't buy it because this was exactly as I got back into collecting two years ago:  I had no clue it was a PAL exclusive, but it did interest me as I had never heard of it before.  I left it there since the guy selling it defined the word douchebag.  I already found a couple CIB copies of the game since then, so I don't care too much, but it's the only time I thought I should've picked something up shortly after leaving it behind.

I was talking with someone on Craigslist about purchasing a Racermate 2 package he had.  It had the cart, dongle, racermate system, bike attachment, everything but the box.  He was asking for $400, which isn't exactly a steal, but its a pretty solid buy.  I had the money, but not the space, that thing is big.  I'm a fan of buying stuff for systems that the general gaming public doesn't own (Prototypes, debug units, Bung products, etc.)  and think this would have made a pretty nice conversation piece.

I definitely use shady techniques on eBay as well. It's nearly impossible to win an auction if you don't these days.

I just have a problem with a snooty email after words bragging about their win. That's pretty low.

One obscure game that I remembered wanting went by the name of Keio: Flying Squadron. Of several listed on eBay, I found one complete one with a Buy it Now price of $75. Not yet being very familiar with Sega CD game prices, I passed figuring an obscure game like that could probably be found much cheaper.  I've only noticed one complete copy be sold on eBay for under $100 since then, and I curse the day that one got away from me too.

I missed out on a nice small lot of Atari 2600 carts made by Sega a couple weeks ago. They were Star Trek, Thunderground, Tac-Scan, Sub-Scan, Buck Rogers and Congo Bongo. They only sold for $13 which was under the max bid I was waiting to place at the last second. I got distracted and lost track of time burning some cd's. I had miss judged by a couple minutes how long it would take to finish the disk versus the auction ending. When I went to place my bid the auction was over. The really painful part is that I'm positive that I would've won because there were two bidders at the end that bid $13 exactly and the tie when to the first one that placed the bid. So that leaves no doubt that those would've been mine. I'm still very upset about it.

Half the stuff I miss, I don't know what it is that I miss.  At flea markets I constantly see myself competing with dealers who speed down one row as I go down another.  The biggest miss I can think of is a Saturn lot on Ebay, poorly titled (Something like "old sgea game system with cables).  It had around 50 complete Saturn games and a boxed Saturn, TONS of great stuff.  Resident Evil, Panzer Dragoon 1, 2, and Saga, Albert Odyssey, Shining Force III, Dragon Force and a whole bunch of imports (The only one I knew was Castlevania SOTN, but I later found out there were a couple of rare ones that went for $50+ )

Anyway, feeling confident with my $370 snipe (the bid at the last minute or two was something like $90).  I click "confirm bid" and... FIREFOX FROZE.  It was the most painful feeling seeing all of those awesome and rare games drift away, and I knew i'd never own 90% of them now   The damn lot went less than $200.  I'll never know if I would've won with my snipe, but it would've brought me some damn comfort at least knowing my bid got in.

I've been beating myself up for this one for a week now.  I did a past eBay search and found this poorly listed SEGA Dreamcast, Katana HKT-01 dev kit... and it didn't sell.  I'm serious.  Well, I contacted him, made an (embarassingly low) offer, and he listed it again.  I scratched up more money, and talked my brother into the possibility of a loan; but it didn't matter.  I cheaped out last minute.  There's two or three every year, and I'll definately land the next one.

That auction looks like the seller ended it early because of an error in the listing, not that it didn't sell.  I missed out on a lot of 9 game gear games today, 6-7 of which were multicarts because I was too lazy to snipe and bid early.  I hate being outbid for 50c at the last minute   Didn't even get any serious bids except mine for $16 and the winning bid of $16.50.

Edit: Heh, I just realized most people probably consider pirated carts here mostly worthless unless they're some kind of rare pirate cart.  I collect pirated stuff

I dont snipe.  I may wait untill the last 30 minutes before bidding on something, but I dont snipe.  It doesnt feel all that great when it happens to me, so why should I do it to others?

Yeah, lots of great things pass me by on Ebay all the time.  World still keeps turnin though and one way or another, I will get what I want.
