It was not a made-for-TV movie. It was definitely a theatrical release and was a very underrated movie for its time.

No. Good guess, though. On the right track. This isn't a violent sci-fi movie at all (hint: not R-rated), but has it's share of drama.

All I can think of is the film where a kid ends up in an alien space ship and blasts around America at very high speed. I think the boy got ill, which is why he was in the space ship. I can't remember what the name of it is, though. Probably completely unrelated anyway.
