I tried playing The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy text game but couldn't work out how to get out of the first room. It went something like

"You are in a room. There is a door to the north"

:Open door to North

"The door is locked"

:Look West

"A bulldozer has flattened your house with you in it. Start again?"

The only text game I have ever played was the original Leisure Suit Larry. It helped pass some time on the Nassau.

That game has graphics, aren't they killer? But anyways Leisure Suit isn't text based.

I voted for "Yes, but I want some graphics. "
Mainly because I have never played Zork so couldn't say if I would like it or not.

The main text game I ever played was The Famous Five on the C64.
I use to love the freedom you had, and the way you could type in all sorts of things... ended up getting stuck though.

Tass Times in Tone Town and Mindshadow FTW!!

These old school text adventures were hard.
I never really got far.  A lot tougher than your point'n'click adventures, that is for certain.

Open the canister... container... jar... cookie jar??  Just open it please!
It was tough being specific enough for the computer to register your action.

Go forward... Go North.
Thats it.

Well in that case, I have never played a text based game and I don't think I will start now.

Hugo's House of Horrors is a game I played but that had graphics, but the input was text based.

I loved them text games.  Tass times was cool.  I beat all three Zorks and love all the Infocom games.  The Lurking Horror is another awesome game.  Ballyhoo, ahh the memories.  And yes text games can have graphics.  Leisure Suit Larry, Maniac Mansion?  Text games.
