It appears North America is finally catching up to DS Lite's colorful overseas choices. On September 13, Nintendo will introduce Onyx Black and Coral Pink DS Lites, joining the currently available Polar White as second and third DS Lite color choices.
"Not only are the DS Lite screen and battery life incredible," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "but the new colors just add another element of fun, allowing people to ‘personalize' who they are by the color, or colors they pick."
The announcement comes just as New Super Mario Bros. surpassed 1 million in sales in the United States since the game's launch three months ago, selling more copies in its first 12 weeks than any other DS game in the U.S.
Both black and pink DS Lites are already available overseas. A black DS Lite was part of the system's European launch, while Japan's pink DS Lite-- called Noble Pink in the region-- released last month. By the end of 2006, the white, black and pink versions will be available in all three regions. The Ice Blue and Enamel Navy colors remain exclusive to Japan.
