I voted "Indecisive". At this time it would be foolhardy for Sega to jump back into the console market.
I think that the best time for Sega to make an attempt would be after the fallout dies down from Sony's next-gen PS3 disaster. There may be enough room for them then to take a shot at it.

I voted yes. I would love another Sega unit. Sega did very well against the NES & SNES. I enjoyed more games for the Genny then I did for the SNES. Who knows what would happen if they did, but I think it would be a success. Though, I'd much rather see another Atari console, I just didn't vote that way.

I voted yes
I think Sega could do it but only if they made some games just for their console, and found some developers to support them. A good idea for a new title would be a Shining Force like those we saw on the Sega Genesis, not the crap they have out now!

I voted yes. It would be awesome to have another Sega console but only if they market the damn thing right! The Dreamcast was downright awesome!! I love it!

Indecisive. And this is coming from a Sega fanboy. I'm not going to get caught in the fanwank of the possiablity of a new console.
It would be cool, but seeing that sega can't even market or sell decent numbers of 99% of their games, I really doubt reentering the market would be a good idea. As much as I love Sega, I'll be the first to admit, they have made some great games since becoming third party, but their advertising sucks, and to a lesser extent distribution. Some of their Xbox/PS2/GC games are pretty uncommon, and no wonder when you have crappy advertising, no one is buying.

I was very tempted to say yes, but something Arrr said in the i miss sega (Sega shouldn't make a new system until they make good games again, or something like that) thread really made sense. Right now they are a barely competent software developer. If they tried to fire up another console, they would get eaten alive.
Of course, what Phoenix said about filling a hole after the PS3 flops makes sense. That should be when they come back, if they come back at all.

I only got into the Dreamcast when I was picking them up at carboot sales for peanuts.
It seemed remarkably good with a lot of potential.
There is a company, you've probably heard of, called Philips, has this knack of coming up with awseome ideas, and then they fizzle out, or it sells them to other people. They kinda invented CD players and stuff, but can be very frustrating, as they drop support for good reliable products, like the cassette which would house 10 cd's. then recgonise it from a library pre-programmed, and then play your fave tracks etc etc
kinda remind me of SEGA a bit. They've dabbled with video games a bit, I think, DVD's that played games aside, the last time they really did anything, was with a contemporary of the 3D0, CD-i was it? My memory fades with time.

Even if the PS3 flops do you think Sony is leaving the VG market or something?

Well... Sega is coming back as a game developing company. The were my first handheld game company! Now they are putting some good work into AC 4, which will beat chrome hounds to a pulp. lol. I don't think they should be making hardware, but they should keep pushing the software. I will be sorely disappointed if they still don't make that series get back on its feet.

I fail to see how it would leave an opening for Sega if teh PS3 fails. If the PS3 fails Sony won't stop making video game hardware and software.

with there being no "NEW" system out sega could make a comeback system with little to no at-time competition. it would be something different, a sega for the new generation of gamers.
in no way was he implying that playstation would stop production. just that the ps3 would flop and peoples attention could be drawn to the new sega system.
and the first new game for the new sega would have to be 'sonic adventure 3'....... that was a joke.

No because I believe Sega lost their good delvelopment studios during the Sammy-Sega merger. The guys like UGA are gone (but they are now Q Enteriment), and all the good creative sprit that Sega had during the Dreamcast days are gone. Now they do rehashes and buying out developers. It was great that Sega did really good with the games on the Dreamcast, but don't forget Capcom releasing not one, but FOUR SHMUPS!
