More Fallout 3. Still loving the world Bethesda has built around the already deep Fallout universe.

Mirror's Edge. I don't care if the game is short, I'm having so much fun with it. I'll definitely be trying to do a speed run of this game.

Resistance: Fall of Man. My initial impressions were "meh", but now I'm really getting into it. The story is getting damn good.

Mischief Makers. At the suggestion of a friend, I grabbed a ROM of this game, and it has a shot at becoming one of my favorite games ever. SHAKE SHAKE!

Last night I tested out a couple of used games and had some trouble, which lead me to this question...Is my PS2 dying?

1. I put in FF 12 and the first time it loaded up fine so I played it up to the first save location.

2. Then, I put in Shin Migami Tensei: Nocturne, and my PS2 couldn't read the disk.

3. Next, I put FF 12 back in and got the same error.

4. I tried loading the FF12 bonus disk (from the Collector's edition) and it loaded fine. So then I thought maybe the game disks were bad so I decided to get a few of the games from my collection (which I know work) to test them out.

5. God of War 1 and Soul Calibur 3 worked fine, but Guitar Hero 1 and Shadow of the Colossus did not.

Given this info, could anyone tell me if:
A. My PS2 is dying or
B. If PS2 game disks "expire" after a certain period of time. I know that sounds ridiculous, but the 4 games from my collection DID work at one time and now only 2 of the 4 do.

My guess is that my PS2 is dying. It's 3 years old and even though I haven't overused it, play wise, it does sit for quite awhile when I'm into current gen gaming.

Any advice is appreciated. Cool

^What kind of PS2 Slim, or Fat ?  The fat's have a hard time reading certain kinds of discs as they age.  This can be corrected by realigning the laser and cleaning the laser eye.  The slims have there problems too but require some soldering skills.  There are several FAQ's and How To's floating around about some of the problems.

The PS2 is probably "dying", phoenix. Cleaning and readjusting the laser should do the trick though. Smiley

It's the slim. FAQs and How To's are on different websites? Or here on RFG?

Thanks. Any advice on where/how to get the directions to do this correctly?

^Looks like good instructions. I take it that they would also apply to the Slim version?

I used those exact same instructions when repairing my PS2 about a year ago! Those are great. You really can't do anything wrong if you follow those carefully. Smiley

Played more Civilization Revolution.  Won through Culture.  Took much longer than I would have liked.

Bought Sonic unleashed and Trauma Center: SO for the wii a few days ago, playing them much as I can but have exams to contend with.

Oddly, when I opened up my copy of TC:SO, I found an extra manual inside but it was for "Ultimate Board Game Collection"!

Also bought 6 or 7 retro games off amazon which should be arriving soon  Cheesy

P.S. Mischief Makers is awesome! Wheres our sequel?
