NWC Gold.  Won by contestants in the 1990 Nintendo World Championships...as far as I know anyway.  Seller was either a contestant or bought it from one.  And your rarity guide is a bit off...usually goes much higher than that Wink

Still a bit low, but closer to the norm.  I think there were what, a hundred gold carts made?  I don't know too much about it, I'm not gonna go spending the cash to get one when the EPROMs are likely gonna crap out in another 4 or 5 years anyway.

There were a total of 26 gold ones made.  They weren't won during the competition, but rather through Nintendo Power.  The grey NWCs were won by the finalists of the NWC 1990, and quite a few greys were also given to Nintendo employees back in the day, so there are many more of those out there.

I'm pretty sure this seller bought it from either a contestant or another collector a few years back.  There was a topic on DP regarding the price of gold NWCs not too long ago, it was argued that its value is around 5,000-7,000k US$.  There were some higher offers made for one not too long ago, but they were likely false.

I'm sure you would be tickled if you landed one, I know I would. There are a bunch of grey carts in hiding and I will find one digging through a bunch of common games at a flea market. Tongue

Oh if I found one for dirt cheap, like a pawn shop or some shit, it'd be hitting eBay in a heartbeat...I could use the fundage.  I don't think I'd ever want to keep it really, although I might...just not gonna drop 6 or 7 grand on it.

You'd be able to afford all the games that you've always wanted. I personally would try to hold onto it for as long as possible. If I had a family emergency or something, than it would definitely be leaving my hands. I'll be honest and say, "I'd be happy with finding a myriad or a River Patrol."

What a insane price...only a fool would pay 20 grand for this thing!
Even a price between 6000 and 7000 is way to much is my opinion!
I rather spend my money on other equipment or a car in that case:)

Not to my knowledge.  That's how you'd switch from the timed competition mode to regular mode, or at least that's what I've been led to believe.  Speedy, do you know more on this?

i'm asking because in one of my old nintendo power mags the july/august 1990 issue the very last page. they were having a contest and second prize was a NWC game. the pic of the game shows no nitch. they gave away 25 of them the pic also shows that it was a gold cart i thought i was a grey cart till i looked it up again.

The seller was given a 5 digit offer on the cart. I think the next closest offer was $8,000. If I could find one for cheap I'd buy it. Don't know if I would keep it though since the game will eventually erase itself and then to me it would be worthless.
