Question about adding pictures to post
«
on:
March 02, 2006, 03:11:14 PM »
This is for all you picture gurus out there. Whenever I try to add a pic to the post it's too big of a file. Can anyone give tips on howe to reduce the size of the file for pics? Any help is appreciated and thanks to everyone for there advice.

The easiest way is to open it in a image program and save it as a jpg or better yet a png.
If you use Paint it tends to mess with quality and colors from time to time but it should get the job done
EDIT!
DO NOT use Paint to resize images though.
It will do more distorting that resizing.

I use Adobe Photoshop, and when you save a file, or 'save as', you can select a range of 1-10 for picture quality..the lower the quality, the smaller the file

If you want to play around with the image and/or resize I use an open source program named "The Gimp"
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
It has the features of Photoshop (I am not a pro on Photoshop so I don't know what might be missing) but the price is right - Free |D
To just resize you could try EasyThumbnails v2.8 from

Also, you don't have to rely on RFGen to host the pictures.  You can use sites like photobucket.com or imageshack.com to host the pictures and link to them on the forums. They should provide you with a link to the picture once it is uploaded, all you have to do is use the [ IMG ] tag to display it ib the thread.
edit: like I said, I dont proofread...

Me too...they used to automatically resize your images to a certain pixel width/heighth IIRC, but they don't do that anymore I think, so I can definitely recommend their free service!

Unfortunately the still do auto resize your larger images.
I was very dissapointed because when my PC crashed i thought i would be able to recover images that i had uploaded but they where all too small :-/
Of course they where 1200+ by 1200+ before i uploaded them.
I used the pics for desktops and such.

Microsoft Photo Editor works good for resizing.

I use a program called IrfanView to resize images and really like it. It's free, and I can send you the installer if you'd want it. PM me if you're interested.
800th post yay.

My file is already a Jpg. When I saved it as a Png it actually increased the size by 1k!!!
